I'm going to model the 50'-60's and would like to know what's available in Frisco prototype paint and models.

    Thanks

What scale? Quite a bit in HO and N, less in other scales. If it's Nscale, you can still find Life-Like FA's, "Racehorse" E-units and ALCO RS-2's. Atlas RS-1's and Baldwin VO-1000's if you look closely. All kinds of freight cars, a pretty decent wide-vision caboose. You can decal Older Atlas-Rivarossi-Con-Cor coaches. Wheels of time makes a "close-to-prototype" Frisco baggage car. So on...

Looking for N scale. Looking for motive power and rollingstock.

The engines I mentioned are mostly still available. I had trouble finding the Baldwin VO-1000, but I stayed with it and came up with one. I had missed getting one when they were first released. I have several passenger car kit-bashing ideas that I'm working on using the Rivarossi cars as starters. There are seven or eight possible Frisco passenger cars that would be good candidates to "re-detail" from the Rivarossi cars. I'd also suggest watching N Scale Supply's (Great On Line N scale dealer) website in their "pre-owned" section. Various Frisco engines show up once in a while there as well as undecorated locos. Also, Altlas' Frisco GP-7 in the black and yellow scheme have been announced for release this fall.

Look for the "Manufactured N Scale Releases" thread. It has several models that may fit your time era. List shows what has been released in simple kits and RTR.

Mike, your post doesn't indicate where you live. The Frisco N scalers are scattered around, but there has to be quite a few for Atlas and the other manufacturers to be producing engines.
Joe has done a lot of work on his list of equipment, so look for that as he says. Others of us are doing somewhat prototype layouts in various eras and areas. We'd like to know more about your intentions so we could maybe assist. I've got some decals you might need, for example, and the Life-Like FA-B combo that I don't really need, compared a KCS GP30.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I would be better off finding out what equipment the Frisco used. Are there any books I can buy that has rollingstock of the 50's and 60's info and photos in it? It seems easier to find informatiom about motive power and cabooses then rollingstock.

I am trying to build a 10'x14' layout with both the Frisco and Missouri Pacific in the 50's and 60's. My layout will not be fully prototype but will have the flavor of both roads.

I live in Maryland Heights, Missouri, a sub of St. Louis.

    Mike,

Look at the rosters and lists we have provided in the thread Joe suggested. It's easy to use reference materials to determine which items fit your period. I have an extensive N Scale collection and most of it would qualify.

One other thing I thought of; while you may want quite a few Frisco cars (especially for outgoing stuff from the industries on your layout), you will want a good variety of cars from railroads to the east and northeast for finished goods incoming to distributors or retailers, or raw materials to manufacturers.

A couple of Examples based on my layout:
Marquette Cement had coal delivered in MoPac gons from Illinois and/or Kentucky, gypsum in P&LE gons from the northeast, and powdered iron from steel smelters just about anywhere north and east.
Superior Electric (small heat-based appliances) had nichrome wire, metal stampings, line cord, bakelike raw materials, hardboard cartons and cardboard cases coming in boxcars from railroads all over the eastern part of the country.

Mike, if you buy equipment that has incomplete data on the Manufactured Releases list please let me know what I missed. Your help is greatly appreciated!
