Now that I'm are settled on modeling the West Bottoms the question comes up of locomotive power. Early I purchased a sound equipted Proto USRA 0-6-0. Appropriate for the Frisco, but that is a big engine for tight switching. I have seen pictures of the smaller high boilered 0-6-0's working down there. Nothing on the market, even to kitbash. I don't know if brass was ever made, but probably could not find it or afford it.

So Baldwin VO 1000's would probably be the next choice. Really bold would to paint them in the early (mid 1940's?) blue, white strip and red lettering scheme. Oddballs makes the decals. If I go with B and Y strip it would have to be the early full stripping and roman gothic lettering. I don't think there are decals for this. I think by the time the Frisco went to the second generation B and Y that comes on the Stewart model it was after the early 1950's flood and things were starting to shut down in the West Bottoms, especially Armour.

Excellent choice of geography for your layout. Nice avatar too.

John, that sounds like a good choice to me...for one, it sounds like mid-40s would be more interesting, operationally-speaking. And, the blue/white/red scheme would really help to place your era.

I appreciate your synopsis of the 0-6-0s. I'd figured on acquiring one of the 0-6-0s that you have...I really want to model steam-only, however. I might have to look at serious kitbashing and just settling for "good enough."

    Best Regards,
