Folks, TrainBoard is affiliated with a company called VigLink that pays a commission for outbound clicks that result in a sale. For example; a user posts a link to an eBay auction and another user clicks over to it and makes a purchase. A commission is paid to TrainBoard. It is driven by a script that runs on the site. The company is reputable and it pays very well. I am NOT proposing or intending to run the script on Frisco.org as I don't believe that a majority of members would favor that so I am not even going to bother to ask you your opinion on that. What I would like to do is this: I would like to add a single link to eBay and one to Amazon. If a member clicks on that link and then makes a purchase at eBay or Amazon a commission would be paid into the general fund that is used to fund this site. The money is not destined for my pocket. There would be a small disclosure link under the eBay and Amazon links. It would not monetize every link to eBay. In other words, if you post a "check this item out on eBay" it would not affect that link. It would if the script ran but we are not going to do that (as stated above). Is anyone is opposed to this (single link to eBay and Amazon) please say so because I do want your opinion. This would be something that no one would have to ever click on if they didn't want to; Clicking on it to go to eBay or Amazon would simply benefit the site (if you made a purchase from one of those sites which many of us do). Speaking of support ... How much of say the $24 on pay pal is garnished by them. I always sent Mike an electronic check, as I figured he would receive the full amount.
I thought an informal sampling on this one would be okay. I would have to look to get an exact amount. Their fees are fairly high but it is still an easy and good way for sites like this one to accept payments. Charlie
At this time there have been 49 views of this thread and no negative replies so I have gone ahead and added the links. If anyone takes great offense at this or it is determined to be a problem, it's just two or three clicks to remove it. Charlie
