I added a rebuild GP 35 to the WAMX roster this week. It lacks the WAMX lettering for the cab sides. I used an old SP unit I had bought in the early ‘90’s and replaced the motor with a can motor out of a unit I had sitting around. Put in a Bachman decoder from a scrap locomotive. She runs good with the 2 Athearn RTR units. The motor does hum a bit.
But it keeps pace with the other unit decently. This one is lettered for the Stillwater Central Railroad owned by Watco.

    Thanks for looking.

Dale, looks great!!! I'm not able to see your track schematic for your layout on my phone. I noticed in the photo you posted above, there are two schematics hanging on the wall. Does this make the entire layout? If not, would you please take a photo of your schematics and post them so guys can enjoy your layout that are in the same position as me and the problem with smart phones.

    Hi Joe,

    First, thanks!
The schematics in the photo need to be updated for some track changes. I used those for operations sessions. I need to print out some new ones. I have updated the POCR map for the port. I will upload it soon.

    Thanks!

    Hello Joe & All,

Here is a revised map of the Port Railway in .PDF. This gives updated names and the new track layout on the West Branch.

    Enjoy!

    Hi Tom,

I know what you mean. Between mowing, work and family obligations, the summer is slipping away! There never seems enough time for anything. I thought these were to be the start of the “Golden Years”! Someone sold us a big yarn!!!

    Take care my friend!

I know what you mean, the older I get the less time I have time for my layout. Life keeps getting in the way. Seems like you have to work harder now than when you were working for a company. Really... Golden Years?

Yes, they are Golden!!! Because now we can do anything we want and don't have to answer to the boss, unless it's your wife. It's also healthy to stay busy.

Nice model Dale! Nice weathering. I love the GP38's and 38-2's.
Are you going to add the nose gyralight? There are several cast parts that make this addition fairly easy. All the Frisco "38's" had them.

I will not be adding the light. It the model was mine, I would probably do it. I’m just adding the dirt, grime and rust for a friend.

    Thanks!

    Dale -
Agree, the model looks great. I assume that is the Atlas GP38.
I was just pointing out other features you could easily add that really set the model off even more. In addition to the nose gyralight, there are parts for a cab roof radio antenna, cab roof rotating beacon, under frame bell, truck speed recorder, m/u hoses, plow pilot, air line hose, different horns, w/s wipers, cab shades, re-rail frogs, etc. Yada yada yada - it seems to go on forever!

My friend Terry was kind enough to send me a picture of Frisco 636 and 638 GP 38-2’s operating on his home layout. Thought I would share it here. His layout is situated on the third floor of a most beautiful 1900’s craftsman style house! As you can see the layout and scenery are top notch!

On another note, I ran across some Blue Box Frisco GP 38-2 locomotives in Missouri last week on the way home. One is now being converted to DCC and being weathered and some added details. I will post up a picture of 671 as soon as I finish.

As always, thanks for looking in!

    Meteor910,
I have a question for you, I’m doing up an Athearn Blue Box 38 and on the speed recorder, was it mounted on the fireman’s side, and front or rear axel?
I have added grab irons, roof eyes and may try to plug the slots in the ends. Also there will be sunshades, antenna and a non-working beacon. Unless I install a better decoder in it.

Thanks for you suggestions, I’ll implement what I can.

It varied. Most often - front truck, left side, front axle.

Athearn GP 38-2, added sun shades, air hoses, lift rings, grab irons and a speed recorder. I’m also relearning the art of installing Athearn Stanton’s and hand rails. I believe I have a bell and a beacon for it. The loco will be touch-up painted and weathered prior to final assembly.

    Thanks for looking!
