Have any of you used Tru-Color acrylic paint, and, if so, what are your thoughts? Do you think any acrylic thinner would work or should I use the Tru-Color thinner if I decide to buy this paint? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have not tried this particular brand, but I have not had a lot of luck using acrylic paint with an airbrush when painting plastic (works okay with wood or cardboard). Acrylics are fine when I use a brush.

Terry, at the RPM meet in Naperville last week one of the presentations was on glues and paints for the scale modeler. Here's what I have in my notes from his discussion of Tru-Color paints:

Tru-Color bought out the old Accupaint line and reformated it. Although it is an acrylic paint (the binder) it uses a solvent as a carrier. He said that it is easier to work with than Floquil. They currently have 200+ colors. Recommended airbrush pressure: 25 psi. He strongly suggests using the manufacturer's recommended thinner with all paints. With Tru-Color he said to thin with TCP-15.

The clinician was Mike Baker. Sorry, I don't have his contact information.

Jim and Greg, thanks for you input. I think I will go ahead and buy some. They are selling Frisco brown which looks good for the six panel Accurail cars I want to repaint and decal. I will use their thinner also. I will let you know how it works after I have painted the cars.

I've used it and it's good paint. It flows nicely, covers well and is great to decal over. I thin it with Acetone. The only problem I've had is that it won't stick on nickle plated parts, such as driver tires and plated wheels. Even using their primer, which won't stick either, I had no luck. I've painted a couple of brass engines with it, but had to paint the wheels with Scalecoat I.

Well, if Don has used it and recommends it, I know it must be good. I have always been impressed with your painting skills and the results you get. Thanks for setting me more at ease about the paint.

I have bought some of these paints, and if anyone is interested in this paint the seller's address is: djaymacd79kx. He has many colors to choose from.

Jim or Don, any advice on the ratio of thinner to paint? The instructions say straight out of the bottle, but I would rather thin it if I can. They recommend their own thinner, so I know it can be thinned. I just don't know the ratio.

    Thanks, Terry

Terry, did you find out the ratio of thinner to use? I want to paint a caboose and I need to know what the it is.

I've used it straight from the bottle and have also thinned it with Acetone. Works well either way. I don't have any of their thinner so I can't advise you on that. I guess I should buy some, but they are really proud of it.
