Sure. Ideally anything ever created for past versions of Trainz could be used in TANE. The DLS (download station) is full of free assets for download. I just did a keyword "slsf" search and it produced 85 items available for free download. There are also third party sites that have Frisco freeware and payware available.

Each new version of Trainz since 2004 seems to have stricter upload and cofig requirements to help overall performance. TANE is no different. I'm sure some of my Frisco content might need updated but most early reports seem say they are quick and easy fixes.

Is it any easier to use than previous versions? For some reason I found it very complicated. Maybe it was just me.

That I couldn't say as I don't have TANE yet.

It does have a bit of a learning curve. It's not meant to be a plug and play game like most popular video games. I really don't like calling it a game at all. It's a true virtual world of model railroading. If you want to drive a train around in one of the pre installed routes that should be fairly straight forward. If you want to immerse yourself into the world of virtual model railroading plan on devoting time to grasp techniques just like N scale or HO scale.

In my case I would just like to watch Frisco action around Missouri. Nothing too serious or time consuming. I bought the last version but had trouble catching on.

I've been thinking about buying this Derrick but it looks like a lot of people are giving it bad reviews.

I refer back to my post #19. It's new software. That's normal. Even new Apple operating systems get bad reviews. People don't like change. Give it some time and a couple of updates / patches. They've already had two updates and some of the loudest critics are now giving it praise.

Like I mentioned this is nothing new and I've seen all the same criticisms with every new version of Trainz for the last 10 years until people get used to it and the a couple of updates. I'm holding off for a bit. Let other people beta test and help work out the bugs first. :)

I ordered mine, paid through Paypal on May 5 and haven't seen hide nor hair of it.

    Don,

I ordered an older version and it came from Australia and I believe it took about a month to arrive.

Check out a sample of these new trees by mcguirel of the Trainz community. They were made specifically for TANE. Note the windmeter in the upper right corner and how the trees react. Pretty slick.

From what I've read the creator is going to upload all the summer versions to the DLS for free download but the additional seasonal versions for each tree variety will be available as a payware pack. Imagine fall foliage or bare naked trees caked with snow depending on the calendar date and region you select.

That is impressive. Wonder where a person could find a discount code if he wanted to purchase?

Im not sure but it looks like it's only $14.95 for the entire collection. You make the purchase directly from the creator. Remember this creator is also putting some of their trees on the DLS. Everything on the DLS is free to download. There's over 125,000 assets on the DLS. I'll probably take a close look at his DLS content first once I have TANE.

Over the next six months there will be a slew of new content specifically developed to take advantage of TANE's capabilities. I think that's when we'll really start to see some eye popping stuff.

I meant to purchase Trainz but I get your point. I may give in and order it. Sigh.....
