Tower Grove, MO Here is an oldie but a goodie. Tower Grove used to all be an at grade diamond crossing. If you look to the right of the building you can see the Missouri Pacific tracks in the background. Many years ago, they separated the grade and the street now passes above the tracks and depot. Depot is long gone.
Don, Was this the depot on Delmar just west of St. Lukes Hospital? The hospital is where Sandy graduated from nurse training. If so, I drove by it often. Doug
Doug, You are thinking of Delmar Station depot on the Wabash Kansas City line. Tower Grove was 3.3 miles west of St. Louis Union Station depot. It was where the Missouri Pacific's St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern (SLIM&S) line split from their main to the west and went south. The crossing was just west of the depot. The diamond crossing is gone now, but the Iron Mountain splits from the Frisco (BNSF) at the same spot. The streets are Tower Grove Avenue and Vandeventer Avenue and the station was just west of Choteau Avenue Yards.
Tower Grove, MO depot. This is a photograph of Tower Grove depot after the grade separation. It is not a very good shot, but I think it is for the opening of the "new" depot as there are banners and flags all around. The overpass to the left is Vandeventor Avenue.
I want to add this station to my St.Louis layout. So I'm looking for drawings and track maps of this station. Can anyone help ? Joerg
I just discovered the Tower Grove depot. So glad pictures were taken and saved. These are treasures from St. Louis history.
