I have a Tichy tank car kit #4020. It is a 10,000 gal tank car with a 54" dome.

Is this size and style of tank car correct for the Frisco?

Style, yes. Size - who knows, the SLSF owned few tank cars - mainly those for fuel, gasoline and water service. They were several sizes, none real big. Compare the Tichy (nice car by the way) with the pics of the Frisco's diesel and waste oil service cars.

My recommendation would be to just do it up as a UTLX, GATX, SHPX et al tank car, which were seen all the time on the Frisco.

ps - Yes, I have some decals, but no SLSF (all gone)

Sounds good. Tichy has decals available for this kit.

Gary, that would fit for a Frisco tank car. #191039 would be a good match.

The dome on the itchy car is quite a bit taller than on 191039. Red Caboose made kits for these cars and ready to run as well.

Tichy offers a small dome tank car (4020) and a large dome tank car (4025). The "small" dome is quite tall; the "large" dome has a bigger diameter but is shorter in height. Both cars are 10,000 gallons nominal. The volume of each dome is pretty much the same I'll bet. The 4025 will be closer to the Frisco diesel fuel cars than the 4020.

See Tichy's web catalog. I recall a communication with the late Richard Hendrickson who offered the opinion that the Tichy tank cars are not prototypical but are typical. He would know!
