Marre and Harper in Frisco Diesel Power document that the Frisco, which was still in receivership during 1943, placed several locomotive purchases on the books of the long-ago-acquired Kansas City, Ft Scott, and Memphis (KCFS&M). See page 39 and 40 of that book.

The purchase of 5 VO-1000s, SLSF 200-204, was the road's first purchase since it bought the 2-8-8-2 2000 class mallets during 1910.

Two GE 44-tonners, SLSF 6 and SLSF 8 were also placed on the Memphis Road's books.

When the Frisco left receivership on January 1, 1947, the locomotives were transferred to the Frisco books.

A few days ago, I received a request for a diagram of the 4-8-4 SLSF 4524.

While I was photoshopping the image, I saw something that had gone un-noticed. Sandwiched in between the diesel purchases was the purchase of a single steam locomotive during August 1943.

Based on the locomotive diagram, it is my contention that the 4-8-4 SLSF 4515 was the largest locomotive ever purchased by the Memphis Road, and it just barely missed being the last locomotive ever purchased by the KCFS&M.

Like the diesel locomotives, it would be transferred to the Frisco on the first day of 1947.

I think it's an interesting footnote.

For the modelers, perhaps some AT&N-like sub-lettering below the "FRISCO" on the cab would be appropriate. ;-)
