I stumbled across the call board picture on the archive recently. I've got a couple questions about it. Despite the high volume of extras, there are a few trains listed in the ETT not listed on the board. CBT, OBX and 131 are missing. Also, the daily local 1011 is missing as well. In addition to that, there is 2 listings for an AUTO train. I haven't seen that call sign anywhere before. Any ideas on that? Some of the trains have DH listed for the Engine. What does that mean? Some of the trains are listed twice with different crews. Would those be like second sections?
The "DH" means deadhead. They need more crews in Memphis to handle westbound trains. Two are deadheading by "AUTO" (automobile), while the other one is riding the CYTY-1 and called for the same time as the CYTY-1 train crew. It is possible that 1011 had not been called yet. It is possible that CTB, OBX and 131 did not run, were combined with another eastbound, or have not been called yet for that day. We do not have enough information. CYTY-1 shows up twice as 2 crews are called for it - the operating crew, and a deadhead crew. KCTY-1 trains at 4 pm and 11 pm are two different trains, originating on different days. Probably the 4 pm train originated on the 27th.
