A while back there were questions and a discussion about the letterboard markings of the Texas Special and Meteor. I did some book and photo research and this is what I came up with:

    Frisco/Katy/Texas Special/Meteor Ownership Lettering
--M-K-T passenger cars including heavyweights lettered for "The Texas Special" in "neon script" had "katy" in a related font on the ownership plate/board.
--M-K-T and Frisco heavyweight Pullmans lettered for "The Texas Special in "neon script" had "pullman" in a related font on the ownership plate/board.
--Frisco passenger cars including 14-4 sleepers and heavyweight lounge 1603 lettered for "The Texas Special" in "neon script" had "frisco" in a related font on the ownership plate/board.
--Frisco Meteor lightweight passenger cars lettered in Railroad Roman were delivered without ownership plate/boards. The lightweight 14-4 sleepers delivered for the Meteor had ownership plate/boards with "Pullman" in Railroad Roman added later.
--Frisco lightweight passenger cars (Except 14-4 sleepers) lettered for "The Texas Special" in "neon script" were re-lettered in 1960-63. "The Texas Special" was replaced with a large "Frisco" in Railroad Roman on the center letterboard and small "Frisco" in Railroad Roman at the end car ownership plate/boards.
--Frisco lightweight 14-4 sleepers lettered for "The Texas Special" in "neon script" were also re-lettered in 1960-63. "The Texas Special" was replaced with a large "Frisco" in Railroad Roman on the center letterboard and small "Pullman" in Railroad Roman on the end car ownership plate/boards.
--Frisco owned heavyweight Pullmans painted in the red and silver scheme had "F-R-I-S-C-O" in Railroad Roman on the large center letterboard. The cars had a smaller "Pullman" in Railroad Roman on the end car ownership plate/boards.
--PRR lightweight sleeping cars painted and lettered for "The Texas Special" in "neon script" had "pullman" in a related font on the ownership plate/boards.
--PRR lightweight sleeping cars painted and lettered for Meteor service had "Pennsylvania" in Railtoad Roman on the large center letterboard and a small "pullman" in Railroad Roman on the ownershp plate/boards.

Note: Typically, Pullman cars were marked with the train name or car owner (Pullman or the RR company) on the larger center letterboard. And the non-owner on the smaller end car letterboard

There were also at least 2 PRR cars that had "PENNSYLVANIA" in the letter boards. These were the cars asigned to the Meteor.

That's right, they were pictured in the Dubin More Classic Trains book.

Tom - excellent summary. It's nice to have this info all in one place. Thanks for pulling all of it together.

    Best Regards,
