I'm not sure about availability of some of these items--even if not available, some items can still be found at dealers, ebay, etc.

Nobody has a 30 wide by 10 high screen, alas :)!

There certainly is a lot of information you could pack in if you could. What is in there appears to be an excellent compilation of useful information and the result of a lot of arduous effort.

I especially appreciate your use of the "notes" column to indicate the time period for some of the models as you did with the Mantua F7. There is a teensy bit of room there for display of introduction dates. Good improvisation!

    Thanks, El Bobo!

I went to graduate school at Purdue University - the Boilermakers' colors are black and gold. Hail Purdue! Their football team helmets are ..... gold. The Monon adopted the Purdue colors for their freight diesels, which were done in a neat black and gold scheme. The Monon also adopted the Indiana University colors, red and cream, for their passenger units, but later came to their senses - and raised their standards - by repainting them into Purdue's colors as well. :p  ;)

No gold like that on any Frisco freight diesel units. They were clearly black and yellow.

The Frisco U25B's - the eight high nose units plus the first batch of low nose units, were black with yellow lettering, numbers and stripes. All later U25B's came in o/w.

The Frisco "Racehorse" E-units, both the rebuilt E7's and the new E8's, originally had gold stripes, numbers and lettering, bordered by a white outline (after a short period initially without the white borders). Later on, as these big fellas were shopped and repainted, the SLSF changed the gold to a color known as "Dulux gold", an imitation gold color that was a rich shade of ..... yellow. No white borders on the repaints.

The passenger cars were the same - originally lettered with gold, then later lettered with Dulux gold (yellow).

By the way, speaking of confusion in describing a color, what does the group think the Frisco shade of red/orange used on the later diesels ought to be called? We seem to call it either "red", "red/orange", "orange", or "Mandarin orange". What's best?

    Chevrolet Engine Red

(Moderator's Note: Bob is dead on with the color: Frisco adopted the color scheme after seeing the EMD GP35 demonstrators painted in the Chevy Engine Red over white over Chevy Engine Red paint scheme. Picture attached.)

Thanks again Bob! I forgot to include that one.

Maybe we ought to adopt the name "CEBR" for the color? Or "CER" as you suggest?

Chevrolet Engine Block Red. That is, after all, where the color came from.

I always did like that color - our first car with a V-8 when I was a kid was a 1957 283cu in, 185HP (I think), 2-barrel Chevrolet Bel Air. Loved that car; learned to drive on it.

I learned to Drive in a 1962 Chevy Impala that had a Frisco colored 327. What a sweet motor. Who would have thought the Frisco would make that one of my favorite colors. (No offense to you B&Y guys)

So, I can just slip down to Auto Zone and grab a spray can of Chevy Engine Red next time I wanna paint a Frisco loco ?

As a sidebar, every 327 I had was an oil-burnin' dog. Every 283 I had was fantastic. Especially when coupled to a 2-speed Power Glide. :D

Methinks after all these years, that it wasn't a matter of which engine was better, but rather how they were treated. Everybody I knew that had one, couldn't wait to show off their 327, while the 283 cars tended to be driven in a more tame manner.

    Who knows ???

The 327 was just a bored and/or stroked 283, which was just a bored and/or stroked 265. Same engine! Best V-8 Detroit ever made.

All of 'em - painted Frisco orange! :)

    Ken

ps: As I recall, they took it up to a 350 as the ultimate displacement. Not bad for a 1955 engine design!

Thanks. I edited the table below.
As far as color, I'm going to stick with Red and White (R&W) for now.

1 more you forgot is the new U25B from stewart painted O/W and 1 you may have forgot, I don't remember seeing it, the B30-7 from atlas. Also Intermountian is coming out with the FP7 and F7B in O/W in HO and N scale.

I'm looking forward to the Intermountain release. Athearn is releasing a SD40-2 late this summer. It's supposed to be prototypically correct. Let's hope they orange up that red a liitle bit.

B30-7 is on the list. The others aren't out yet; let's wait until they're available and someone reviews them.

Gary - The other four Athearn Genesis F3 numbers are:

    F3A's - SLSF 5009, 5014

    F3B's: SLSF 5109, 5114

Personally, I would rate their accuracy as better than "good". I think they are outstanding, only the green anti-glare color, as you noted, and the slightly too deep shade of yellow bothers me.

They are in the as-delivered paint scheme, meaning that the units have only tiny side numbers in the yellow at the ends, and the B-units have no "Frisco" on the side.

    Nice table!

    Thanks, I'll edit them in.
I picked up a Genesis F3A for a very good price--apparently it was being blown out before the Sound models showed up. It's very nice. I may need to buy more.

Maybe one of our N scale brethren will do the same with their wee locos. :) Any takers out there?

I sure wish we could convince Athearn to do the Genesis F7 A&B in Frisco colors to go with the F3's!

The Gulf, Mobile & Ohio folks have one of the best listings of models of all equipment in all scales from Z to G! Go to their society web page and enter the Modeler´s Corner and go to the GM&O Model Railroad Product Data Base.

Item: The listing for Z scale even includes the coupler type, MicroTrains or Märklin. The list even includes motor vehicles!

Frisco. org sure needs a data base modeled after this one!
