  1. Re: Springfield Train Meet

Thanks to all you Frisco guys who attended and help make the Springfield Train Meet hosted by the Ozarks Model Railroad Assn. a success.

It was great seeing some old faces (I don't mean old people either) and meeting some new people.

And thanks to Bob Wintle for organizing our lunch gathering.

The next opportunity for a get together will be in Wichita June 12 & 13 and the it's Pittsburg in September.

    Good times...

Sorry I couldn't make it for lunch, but I did make it to the show with my son and grandson (2and half yrs old). He was a good boy riding on grandpa's shoulders most of the time. His favorite part was the operating layouts. "Here it comes Pa Pa!). He won a door prize and he found Superman and Batman, inside joke for those who attended.

I did get to chat briefly again with Ken W. I may have seen more of you, not realizing who you were.

I did have a good chat with Craig, his son and grandson at the OMRA meet in Springfield. Craig's grandson was obviously having a good time looking at all the trains! It was a fun day.

This brings to life an idea. We may all well have been to various model railroad or memoribilia shows and crossed paths with fellow Frisco.org folks. Maybe we ought to think about getting either nametags, shirts or hats designating that we are part of this great group. Just an idea.

El Bobo's idea sounds good to me! I think a name tag would work best. I have trouble remembering names and name tags help a lot.

For old times sake, I put on a name tag yesterday I still have from the FMIG meeting in Tulsa (1983?). It has my name on it, with a Frisco coonskin, plus the words Frisco Modeler's Information Group.

It worked OK for a while until it fell apart! I'm not the only thing getting old! :p

I enjoyed the Springfield Meet very much. It is always a pleasure to meet and talk with follow modelers who have the same interest. The highlight of the day was railfanning with the Frisco Group. And I thank Bob for the idea of getting together for lunch. Very enjoyable and very entertaining. I hope we can all get together in Wichita

I'm up for this. (I'd be ok with any "profits" going to help fund the web site too.)

It was great meeting new friends and getting together with old friends too. Thanks for putting the lunch together Bob. And thank you Steve M. for the layout suggestion, I am seriously considering your input about 19th St. Yard. Rick McClellan had some ideas about operating the 19th St Yard too.

Had a great time railfanning at the foot bridge and out by Nichols too. Of course I wish we were looking at red and white instead of orange motive power.

    Re: Good times...

One possible way to do this right away (a frisco.org ID tag) at very low cost would be to design a common name tag format in 3.5"x2.25" size, showing the Frisco coonskin logo, the words "Member, frisco.org", the individual's screen name, and the individual's real name.

The common format would make it easily recognized. The specific size will fit into a standard clear plastic, pin-back ID name tag holder that they always give you at meetings. Many of us no doubt have several of these sitting around. If not, they can't cost much.

The ID tag format could be posted on frisco.org, perhaps as a Word or Powerpoint file. Each member then adds his name (or her name - do we have any lady members?) and screen name, and prints it off. Insert it into the clear plastic name tag holder, and you have it.

Pin it on and you are immediately identified as a frisco.org member, and guys like me who cannot ever remember names of people I don't know real well will be able to recognize you.

    Thoughts?

    Ken:
I had been thinking more along the lines of an Engraved name tag but I like your idea even better. I will get to work on a design maybe a couple and post them under a new thread. Hopefully others will do the same and we can decide the best choice as a group.
I would like to take this time to say you are welcome to all who have thanked me for the idea of getting together last saturday. I benefited greatly from the day and hope you all did too. I really am looking forward to both the MCoR NMRA convention in Wichita and the Frisco_Org get together in Pittsburg. Hope to see many of you at both events.

    Re: Springfield Train Meet

Bob - I agree an engraved plastic name tag would be better, and ultimately I would want to move to that. My thought was that my suggestion would be a way to get something quickly and at little or no cost. A first step, so to speak, and something that could be ready soon enough for the Wichita and Pittsburg gatherings.

Later on, for those that want them, we could have engraved plastic name tags done up for a nominal cost. I would suggest these be done in the same general format.

Avery actually makes several kits for a pin style name badge, some that have the needed material to make 100 badges. We used them for our business several years ago.

What you do after purchasing the kit is download Avery Wizard Software fom the Internet and you're good to go.

    Really clean, neat, and easy!
