Springdale, AR depot. :) Springdale, Ar 2009

Springdale, AR is the current hub for the Missouri and Arkansas (M&A) Railroad.

    http://www.arkansasmissouri-rr.com/index.html

They occupy the building and ones they have added of the old Frisco employee depot.

The replacement Armco metal modular depot, was built on the site of the original depot.

They built a new frame depot for the M&A just south and on the east side of the tracks.

I shot several photographs of the depot and yard.

    Hello,

The railroad that runs though Springdale, Arkansas, is known as the Arkansas and Missouri (A&M) Railroad.

This railroad runs from Monett, MO, to Van Buran, AR.

  6. Correction Mr. Waller,

The south terminal of the A&M Railroad is Fort Smith, AR.

And for your information, it is Van Buren, not Van Buran.

Was the old depot located in the same spot as the new one built by the A&M?

How come the old Depot came down?

Did A&M tear it down or was the demolition pre-A&M? :)

    Ship it on the Frisco!

The Springdale, AR depot demolition was before the Rogers, AR depot demolition, I believe.

The BN was responsible for the Rogers depot coming down, prior to the A&M coming on the scene.

The Bentonville, AR depot was saved, and is currently about to have a change of occupancy.

It is controlled by the Bentonville Library Foundation.

The Fayetteville, AR depot is in commercial use.

    Murphy,

The prior Frisco depot in Springdale was located west of the Ft. Smith Subdivision main track on Front Street.

Today the road formerly known as Front Street has been renamed Commercial Street. The depot address was 150 E. Commercial St.

The depot was south of East Johnson Avenue and north of East Emma Avenue. This was the same real estate property currently occupied by the A&M engine facility.

The current A&M excursion depot is located on the east side of the Ft. Smith Subdivision main track, south of Ewitt Street. This is south of East Emma Avenue and north of East Meadow Avenue. The address of the new depot is 306 E. Emma Ave., Springdale, AR 72764.

Please see the following map link.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

  9. Thank you Steve & Mark,

I wish the BN did not tear the depots down.

They would have found use on the A&M's line. It would be cool if it was still here and the locomotive shop was where the new depot is located.

    Thanks again.

    Ship it on the Frisco!

The current A&M dispatcher office is on the west side of the tracks.

It is a metal building built by the Burlington Northern in 1982. All of the remaining BN agents in Northwest Arkansas - Bentonville, Rogers and Springdale, were centralized in the Springdale BN depot.

The brick and tile roofed Springdale depot was built in 1923. Demolition of the Springdale depot began December 1992. By the end of that year little remained except rubble.

The Springdale depot was demolished because the old business model of passenger and express business no longer existed.

The BN was using computers to handle freight business so there was no sense in maintaining an old and expensive building.
