The BN wasn't afraid of trying different stuff with their locomotives, Natural Gas, Caterpillar powered, they tried a lot of experiments. While I was working in Alliance NE in the early 1990's there were bunches all over the place all the time. I have boxes of pretty cool pictures of them.
    Please carry on..

They definitely thought outside of the box on a lot of things. Bringing back b-units in a big way, fuel tenders, natural gas, caterpillar repowering, the TEBC's from the old sd9's. Though the fuel tenders wasn't an original idea of theirs since UP did it a long time ago.

I like your b30-7a and the large cab gp50..i've always debated building one of those..your TBEC is absolutely amazing..I've never seen one modeled hurts they killed sd9's for those though..haha

We can bring this portion of the conversation to a close and get back to talk about modeling, etc., as I have spoken (and am still speaking) to folks about this slight misunderstanding.

Let me reiterate: This is a Frisco site and we are generally on topic with the realization that most people here are interested in Frisco content. However, if a member models other roads they should feel welcome to post some pictures for general discussion. Obviously, that will not be a daily thing and we will still see 99% Frisco stuff here (which is what we are all after). My analogy from yesterday was that if a member joins here and is interested in the Frisco, and also models the Western Pacific, Maine Central, BN, whatever, it's okay for him to show us his/her layout, etc., models they have detailed and so on.

It's all good stuff. Drinking Scotch is a daily thing but the occasional Margarita is good too.

Kevin, there's a standing invitation for you to join me in one outstanding Margarita anytime you come to KC.

BTW, back in '83 I started a kit-bashing project that involved BN B30-7As and fuel tenders. Still have all the parts and paint, just never completed them when my college schedule got too intense.

I need to take a trip to that part of the country anyway.

I knew new the best way to make the b30-7a's was with rpp b23-7 shells but when I did the project I couldn't find any for the life of I went ahead with cutting up athearn shells..swore I'd never do it that way again haha

IN defense of the Bad News, their merger with Frisco introduced me to a plethora of first-generation Geeps and switchers I'd never see otherwise- stuff like former NP and GP GP9s and GP20s, for instance. At one time I even painted & decaled an Athearn GP7 (after removing the dynamic brake blister & adding appropriate features) as a BN GP7 of CB&Q ancestry. And I DO have one covered hopper painted in Cascade Green with SLSF lettering (a la the last order of covered hoppers prior to the merger). ANd I would have to been blind not to have seen all those SD40-2s and six-axle U-boats on the point of coal trains coming into Hugo.

Diesel modeling is diesel modeling, regardless of prototype. Which is why I also have Santa Fe, UP, KCS and Seaboard Coast Line motive power in my collection.

I can remember seeing some of those big cabless b units around Tulsa on the Tulsa -Ft. Worth line. There was also an ancient SD-9 that blew black smoke that I would see occasionally up until the early 2000s. Today its a treat to catch anything other than dash 9s and SD 70 Macs operating on the line.

Yep thats all we see here too 99.9% C44's a few MAC's pretty boring for the most part. We do see one of the "Circus Wagon" looking units from Mexico on occasion to kind of liven things up a bit.

I'm a little jealous. I could use one of those hoppers. I just can't seem to find lettering to match the reporting marks and numbers.

Its a mix and match affair..microscale makes the sheets for the c&s and fw&d hoppers in green but not the frisco's

oddly enough a former cb&q gp9 lives on near my house here in southern california. It was modified with windows in the nose when they first started to try to eliminate the caboose...I have all the parts to model it but I've been working on my layout more and havent done much scratchbuilding.

I repainted a couple like this from BN cars, don't think its exactly the right car but close enough. Like Kevin said mix and matched some decals, and made a few of my own too.

Thats how I model a lot of things..I don't count rivets. I figure if it looks close enough I'm not going to worry about hitting it dead on. As long as I'm happy with it, then I don't need to worry. Nice looking car btw...I have some hoppers I am going to do with the c&s reporting marks and the fw&d reporting marks. I think I may have another so I can do the slsf one also...I still have to finish a CE&I hopper I started too..
