    Re: Frisco Hand Car

SLSF 1160 is a Frisco built, steel frame and underframe, wood sided caboose. We could use good scale drawings of these cabooses.

Frisco built, steel frame and underframe, wood side, end cupola with straight side steel cupola cars from the SLSF 10-26 and 30-119 series. Constructed in 4 groups during 1938 (SLSF 10-26), 1940 (SLSF 30-40), 1942 (SLSF 41-99) and 1946 (SLSF 100-119) in their shops in Springfield, MO.

    Cars known to have been renumbered include SLSF 1100 (1st), 1103 (1st), 1104 (1st), 1106, 1107, 1108, 1109, 1112, 1113, 1114, 1115, 1116, 1117, 1118, 1119, 1120, 1121, 1122, 1130 (1st), 1131, 1132, 1133 (1st), 1134, 1135, 1138, 1139 (1st), 1140, 1142 (1st), 1143, 1144, 1146, 1148, 1149, 1154, 1155, 1159 (1st), 1160, 1161, 1163 (1st), 1165, 1167, 1168, 1171, 1172, 1173, 1174, 1176, 1177 (1st), 1178, 1179, 1180 (1st), 1181 (1st), 1183, 1185, 1186 (1st), 1187, 1188, 1189, 1190, 1191 (1st), 1192, 1193, 1194, 1195 (1st), 1196, 1197, 1198, 1199.

American Car & Foundry built, all steel, end cupola, former 1500, 1600 and 1700 series ATSF cabooses. The Frisco cars in these series were constructed in 1927, 1928 and 1929. These cars were acquired in 9/1969 (SLSF 1100-1105) and 1971 (nonconsecutive SLSF numbered cars noted below). These cars were intended as replacements for wood sided cars in local service.

    Cars known to have been renumbered include SLSF 1100 (2nd), 1101, 1102 (2nd), 1103 (2nd), 1104 (2nd), 1105 (2nd), 1128 (2nd), 1130 (2nd), 1133 (2nd), 1136, 1139 (2nd), 1141, 1142 (2nd), 1145 (2nd), 1147, 1152, 1153, 1159 (2nd), 1163 (2nd), 1164, 1166, 1170 (2nd), 1177 (2nd), 1180 (2nd), 1181 (2nd), 1182, 1191 (2nd), 1195 (2nd).

The former ATSF cars have sometimes been referred to in error as CE-1 or CE-2 cars. These class designations came into effect during the Santa Fe's caboose modernization program during the 1970s. This was after the Frisco acquired their cars. As a result, the ATSF would have retired and sold these cars before bearing these designations from the prior owner. Therefore, the appropriate designation for the Frisco's cabooses should be former ATSF class or series 1500, 1600 and 1700 cars.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

I measured the 1150 in MO on the old highline. I made a model of it which I am pretty sure is in a The Meteor. Whomever it was that wants to make a drawing of these Frisco cabooses, I can furnish the dimensions. Keep in mind that this caboose has the side doors.

RCH (Ryan Harris) has the ability to create the drawings with CAD. Richard, if you would send him a PM and let him know, he would probably help. He is also looking for dimensional data for the Bay Window cabooses to do likewise.
