    Sigh.

I'm still catching up after 2+ weeks of vacation out east...

I'll echo Ken's sadness. Between school starting up (elementary for the kids and Mizzou for my wife) and the process of new-house hunting, I just don't think it's going to work.

If it does, it will be a "game day decision." Mike, Rick, et. al., will there be options for "admission at the door" if the planets all align in my favor?

    Best Regards,

    Howdy,

I'll defer that to Richard Napper. His email is: Richard E. Napper [renapper@centurylink.net].

    Terry,

The maps have been scanned electronically, printed and will be available at the meet. Richard has retained the original.

    Chris,

We all understand the constraints of family and other responsibilities. You will be able to walk up and register the day of the event.

That said, this is an event that Frisco fans should not miss. The idea and information exchanges are priceless. There is nothing like making new personal connections with Frisco Folks. There are opportunities to work on a large operating model railroad, enjoy the swap tables of Frisco stuff, participate in clinics, share your views on the future of this Frisco site and organization, see some great prototype Frisco locations, view and share slides and ride a train on a Frisco prototype line. Spouses are welcome and there is a fun day of activities planed for them. Also, at this time it has not been determined if, where or when another Frisco event will be held.

The inability to preregister results in an additional expense for the registrant. They also miss out on some special items reserved for those who register early. In addition, you will not benefit from the lower hotel room rate if you do not book reservations early. So don't miss out, save money and register now!

By the way, did I mention there is great food in Kansas City, including a planned trip to Rosedale Bar-B-Que!

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Anyone who at first thought they would not be able to, but finds they can attend after all, even at the last minute, will be welcome and can register at the door.

I don't know where the screw up was/is... but I was under the understanding the Frisco convention weekend was 17-20. That was the time I have marked off.

If it is next weekend I'm out. I have to run a passenger train. No way to get things changed.

Bring your models to the KC Convention

    Howdy folks,

Bring your models for display to the KC Frisco Convention. We will not have a contest, but there will be a table set up in the swap meet room for you to display your Frisco Models. It can be structures, rolling stock, locomotives, bridges; just about anything you want to display that you have modeled that is Frisco!

    See you there,
    Mike

    Well it has started.

The 2nd Annual Frisco Meet is under way. Rick hosted a number of Frisco folks at an operating session this evening. Everyone seemed to have a good time. The weather cooperated and Saturday looks to be an even better day.

The Frisco ladies are excited about tomorrow's day filled with events. And the Frisco men are ready for great discussions, presentations and tours. The evening will be topped off with a bar-b-q dinner and slide night. Sunday's train ride and lunch will be another great day.

The Frisco folks that are here are having a great time and there is more to come. We miss those who were unable to attend. Remember it is not too early to start thinking about your plan to attend the next Frisco convention.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Glad everyone is having a good time. I was really looking forward to meeting more Frisco Folk, as well as running on Rick's layout. Bummer.

Got to leave at noon to go run the Fort Smith - Springdale passenger train that knocked me out of the meet. When I pass through Winslow, I'll give an extra toot on the whistle in rememberance of the fun I COULD have been having! (Sigh)

    Keep the updates coming!

It was nice meeting everyone that attended the operating session since I am tied up today! It's amazing how many trains you can move when you have that many people operating.

It's late Saturday night, and we ended the slide show/door prize giveaway/yukfest an hour or so ago. This has been an awesome day for me, and I was privieged to be around a great group of guys. The clinics were quite informative (Richard Napper's clinic on adding decoders to Athearn blue-box locomotives, especially), the swap meet materials were awesome (I'm taking back another B/Y GP7), the tour of the West Bottoms and the former Fairgrounds Branch was quite informative, and the BBQ at Rosedale BBQ was mouthwateriing (but hey, it's Kansas City barbecue- it's ALL delicious! :D ).

This meet was the absolute best rail society gathering I have ever attended, and I cannot wait until next year's convention. My thanks go to all those fine folks who did the grunt work getting the convention together, to Rick McClellan for allowing a bunch of strangers to run amuck on his layout, and to the Crowne Plaza hotel in Lenexa for having us there.

Start making your plans NOW for next year- from what I've experienced, these things are only going to get better (and this was pretty darn good).

For those of you who weren't able to attend, we missed ya. Please, don't miss next year if you can!

    Another satisfied Frisco customer...............;):D

Glad you all are having a grand time.

While on my way to run that fool passenger train that knocked me out of going, I was about 10 minutes away from the terminal when my cell phone rang: "Enjoy your afternoon... the passenger run has been annulled."

    ??????

    SO...

I missed out on the fun in KC... and didn't even get to make the $$ I was going to make. Too bad my Satuday was already shot to poo having to fit in a schedule that didn't happen!!!

What location is at the top of the list for next year?

Just got back home after a fanstastic weekend! It was well worth the work our team put into it! The weather was absolutely beautiful (sunny, approximately 75F, nice breeze) for all of our activities outdoors - the West Bottoms/Fairgrounds District Tour yesterday, and the train ride today. Add to the West Bottoms tour, the presence of the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus Red train parked on the east side of Kemper Arena and railfanning doesn't get much better especially with the treat of good old Kansas City barbeque from Rosedale Barbeque (the place Frisco folk have frequented since July 4, 1934!

It was great to put names with faces and better get to know the fine people we have in the group. I look forward seeing everyone that was present again, and those who chose not to attend or were not able to attend.

The clinics were nicely divided between historical and modeling, so there was something for everyone.

My only wish was and is that we could get more of the people that aren't necessarily modelers, the historians and collectors, to participate. We are all interested in one thing primarily, and that is the preservation of the memory and as many physical things of our beloved Frisco as is practically possible.

The idea or desire amongst the group present is that a meet in Springfield may help cement a good relationship between the historicans and modelers so that our combined ranks can better serve the goal of preserving for the future all things Frisco.

I am willing to offer guidance as much as possible to anyone in Springfield that will pick up the banner to set up a convention there next year. Now is the time to get started so that as many as possible can attend.

Anyone interested in the presentation or convention files can find them posted on this thread:

I too want to thank all who attended the 2nd Annual Frisco Convention.

We had a terrific time. The event featured an operating session on a Frisco prototype railroad, a railroad swap meet, 7 clinics, a prototype tour of the West Bottoms Industrial District and "The Hill", a bar-b-que dinner, a wonderful slide show, door prizes, a train ride on the Clinton Subdivision High Line and a picnic lunch. We each had the opportunity to meet new folks, put faces with friends on this forum, catch up with old friends and look forward to more people becoming actively involved.

We packed a great deal of fun in just a few hours. I know several of us stayed up a few extra hours late into the night trading stories and sharing ideas. It is terrific to be able to share information with others and gain new insight into our favorite railroad. We sincerely hope that those in attendance and many others will contact us and come back to Kansas City soon!

A very special thank you to Mike Corley. As the Frisco.org web site host he has been instrumental in providing us with a fantastic forum to help preserve and foster further growth of information on the Frisco. His tireless efforts are a wonderful asset to our Frisco Folks Family group of historians, former employees and modelers.

Mike is a fun, kind and generous fellow. It must be that Oklahoma up bringing. His personality is one that quickly makes you feel at ease and like he has been a good friend for a long time. It was a sincere pleasure to have the opportunity to visit with him in person. He was even king enough to think of all of us by providing the opportunity to see and purchase the wonderful Intermountain / Red Caboose custom manufactured Frisco flat cars.

I also want to thank the generous support we received from a number of manufacturers that were kind enough to provide door prizes. These were a big success and appreciated by everyone in attendance at last night's get together. Each person there received at least a few items to foster additional work on their railroad. The companies that supported us, in no particular order, included Blair Line, Athearn, Kadee, Intermountain, Walthers, MicroScale, Woodland Scenics and Digitrax. Many of the products they provided were items specific to the Frisco.

One thing is certain, the Frisco Folks Family is a wonderful group of people! I too am looking forward to our next get together. It is encouraging to know there is a great deal of enthusiasm and support for the next event. Each member of this year's gathering committee is willing to lend a hand to help the next annual convention organizers. We eagerly await news on the next event.

Thanks again to all who supported the convention.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Wow. What a convetion. It was nice to see everyone again. To meet some new faces. Had a great time.

Have some pictures from the event.

    Friday Night;

Rick McClellan open up his layout for a operating session with some green horns.

Pictrure 1 is may Dad (Bud Rittinghouse) operating Rosedale yard, with the help of Keith Robinson. My Dad said his head was spinning but he did OK Keith said.

Picture 2 is me (Eugene Rittinghouse) I took over for Dad. When we got the Fort Scott Local from Ft Scott to Rosdale. I will say that Rosedale Yard switching is overwhlming but fun. I had a lot of help from Keith also.

Picture 3 is Rick McClellan greated us on Saturday at the hotal. For a great day of clinics.

Pictures 4 - 6 Is the great tour of the Bottoms of Kansas City. I live in Kansas City and saw things I never new excisted in Kansas City.

Picture 7 Is Rick Cordinating the train ride on Sunday at Belton, Missouri on old Frisco line.

Picture 8-10 is some of the Frisco Friends that rode on the train and the engine that pulled the tour.

Rick thank you for a great convention and the convention goup. I do not think it could of gone better.

For all that was not able to be here this year hope to see you next year.
