OK this is a really sad story, and partly my fault, but. I am searching for help. I took my HALLMARK 4-8-4 out to add a little touch up to it, and finish the gloss on the pain job.

After I got the gloss coat on, I realized, I was to let it sit for 24 hours to dry. So I figured it would be safe sitting on my hobby table, which, up to this point, nothing on it had been touched.

I got up early to take my son to work, and he let his Siberian husky out, which was the normal routine. And while I was gone, she, obviously attracted to the smell of the fresh paint. took the Brass locomotive in her mouth, carried it to the living room floor, and proceeded to chew it up. I was lucky I caught it in time, before she swallowed the entire engine, but, the damage is not very extensive, there is still damage. The walkway on the firemans side is torn about halfway off. and the rest is just bent railings here and there. as well as the front dummy coupler, is off, but not damaged.

If there is anyone here who is an expert at fixing brass models. And would be willing and able to help me out. Please let me know. $1500 dollars has been invested into this model and is the center piece of my future layout. I would really lie to have it fixed.

Thanks for reading, and am anxiously awaiting hearing from someone who can rescue this fine piece of FRISCO Machinery. Although it isn't up to par to the Glacier Park Models released last year. It was a gift from my wife. and she is clearly upset. I ordered one of the GPM 4-8-4's, but apparently I was forgotten in the shuffle of things.

Please let me know what it will cost me to fix this engine to where it will at least not look like it was damaged.

Although this post is VERY NEW! I have made arrangements to drop the 4500 off at a brass dealer here in San Antonio on Thursday. Mike is very good with brass models, and in the deal I got....turns out I will be acquiring another brass model out of the deal. He has to strip the boiler down to bare metal, thankfully, I purchased several sets of Oddballs decals. I intend from now on, to keep my models out of the reach of children, AS WELL AS CRITTERS, and have learned a very valuable lesson. It feels as though I am awaiting the arrival of a brand new model. Although I am still on the lookout for a GPM Model of the FRISCO 4-8-4. I am satisfied with this one, or at least will be.

Wow. What a story. I guess the dog wanted a ride inside the cab and was trying to figure out how to get inside. Glad you got her back okay, and you found a place that repairs brass. BTW, who is it?

Believe it or not Manny, Mike at DIBBLES is one of the best brass repairmen San Antonio has to offer. They were much friendlier to me when i went in this last time, I like Mike alot he is very knowledgeable and eager to help with anything and dont discriminate against other railroads. It is just usually when the older men get in there. Next time if you go in, Ask for Mike, he will help, or direct you to a friendlier person who is just as good. It was just that one older big fella that gave me alot of gas about my choice of railroading!!!

I have heard of dogs eating children's homework, but eating a Frisco 4-8-4? Must be a Burlington Northern/Santa Fe husky.

    UPDATE ON THE 4500

I believe i posted awhile back that......MY HALLMARK 4-8-4 which there are pictures of in my gallery, was tragically eaten by my sons dog.

OK...HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED. I have to add this to make everything make sense. I AM A DISABLED VETERAN AND I have my moments when I have to sit in a certain chair in my house to be able to function pain free. Well, it just happens to be at my hobby table. SO...on this particular night while I was there. I decided to get out a project and do something FUN.

I slowly and carefully took my 4-8-4 out of the box and sat it gently on a piece of track and was gonna just admire it figuring I wouldnt be there too long before I would just decide to go to bed. WAS I WRONG.....

I Decided that I would add a gloss coat to her while she was sitting there. SO I TOOK HER APART, AND CAREFULLY TAPED OFF DIFFERENT AREAS, AND GAVE HER A GOOD SHINY, GLOSSY COAT. Then I read on the side of the bottle, MUST ALLOW TO SIT FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS TO DRY.

DARNIT..................SO I SAT HER BACK...AS FAR AS WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A SAFE DISTANCE FROM FIRE FLOOD FRIPPERY OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT MIGHT CAUSE HARM TO HER......WRONG AGAIN..

I GOT UP AT 5 that morning and took my son to work and there she sat, COMPLETELY UNHARMED, I returned 30 minutes later, checked again.....NO CHANGE

SO I FIGURED OK.......SHE WAS GONNA BE OK.

    BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....wrong answer....

I came back down stairs to check on her one last time and, THERE SHE LAY......IN the middle of the dining room floor, her walkway on the conductors side had been ripped off like a tornado had tossed her for a country mile.

WEll I called my buddy Mike who works at Dibbles hobbys in San Antonio, and....Alas he had me bring her in, He said he could fix her but,,,,,the teeth marks were NEVER gonna come out. So He sanded her down and gave her a good look and he told me the other day......

SHE IS A MESS...BUT.......SHE IS FIXABLE.....I guess my sons SIBERIAN HUSKY, chewed at the piping under the front of the boiler pretty good, but, Mike said it is gonna take awhile and in order for her to look as good as she once did, She is gonna have to go thru a regular standard ole BLACK PAINT SCHEME, and of course, A Number change. So Now, I am in the market for another "UNDAMAGED" FRISCO 4500 class 4-8-4. anyone got N E Ideas? I know it is a tragic story, but alas, I took care of the problem, the DOG has a permanent home outside, and my hobby area has been moved to a room where it is child proof, and dog and other critter proof.

PM OR POST IF YOU KNOW WHERE I MIGHT FIND ANOTHER 4-8-4 FRISCO 4500

    Thanks Guys

Sorry to hear it got tore up again. I've had the same problem before, but not on something of that cost. There was a GPM 4-8-4 on ebay a couple days ago, but it's gone now.

A Really Sad (dog´s) Tail? Don´t guess the tender has a Dog House? Am glad there will be a Happy Ending to the story and the locomotive will be almost as good as new though!

Which branch of the service were you in? I served with the US Army Transportation Corps from 1964-1967. Cold War in Germany after attending the USATC at Ft. Eustus, VA.

I was in Dallas (where I was built on 7-4-46) in April 2009 and dropped by Collectable Trains in the AM when two old f**ts were just opening up. Pat Neil wasn´t there. The two old coggers were quite unfriendly and this is unheard of in Texas, or at least used to be. I just turned around and got into my car and drove off. Left a sour note to my vacation song though! I sure regretted that Bobbye Hall had passed on. Her store was tops!

Ethan, it didnt get tore up again, it is still tore up from the first time, wont let it happen again, THATS FOR SURE.

I was in the US ARMY 1993-1996. I was sent to Somalia shortly after basic and AIT. I was mainly stationed at Ft. Bliss TX, then Ft Hood TX. Got out in 1996 and rehired with the railroad immediately after!

Wonder how many Frisco employees and fans have lost their lives defending freedom? I served my country with pride but did miss hanging out at the SSW depot at Carrollton, Texas, watching Frisco, Katy and Cotton Belt action and gettin´ an honest to goodness fountain Coke (Reg.U.S.Pat.Off.) at the Rainbow Pharmacy located on the town square!
