That is a NEAT model. I like your ideas for weathering.

Thanks Sherrel. I appreciate the support.

This is why I love Tichy Train Group. Spoke with Heather and they're sending me the P sprue at no cost. Awesome customer service.

Switching gears and am starting to weather the tank car. I'll also be doing some painting today on what I can with the hoist.

Delays: Waiting on replacement part from Tichy and my Kimberly Clarke gloves to arrive. No oily prints on this job!

Naaah... We sure don't want any oil on a tank car ...LOL slapping my face.

LOL...The parts from Tichy arrived today. Just snagged them out of the mailbox. I'll put that piece on and then it's to the ultrasonic cleaner and then the paint shop. Once everything is painted, it's put together time.

Let's all sing, shall we...Altogether now!

"Nothing could be finer than a lil zinc chromate primer, in the moooooor-ning!"
"No crane would be completer than a primer when she's painted in the moooooor-ning!"

Sweet! Nice train on the shelf in the second photo. Let's see your airbrush setup.

That is part of the MOW train in progress. One little stinking part is holding up completion of the whole line. It will hopefully be available soon. My airbrush set-up isn't anything spectacular. I was using a Paasche VL Double Action, but I couldn't get used to it, so I went back to the single phase Paasche H. I primarily use tips 1 and 3. Tip 1 was used for the chromate primer. I do have a paint booth, but because I don't have a proper set-up for lighting, it stills there as an ornament. I need to get my paint shop in order.

I fixed the main drive section with that part that went "ping", so she is now drying after her ultrasonic bath. She'll get painted probably in the morning to make sure that it is dry. I'll soon be painting the outside of the cab and the underside of the chassis primer, as it is pretty dry. I like Polly S because it is dry to work with in 60 minutes.

The chassis will be painted steam engine black. The cab will be painted the same. The main mechanism will be painted oily black. The boom will be steam engine black, with oily black dry brushing. I'm debating how much rust to put on the hoist. More dirt and dust than anything. I wouldn't think that the railroad would let their heavy equipment like this get shoddy. They cost boo-koo $$$, so they'd take care of them a little better than just any piece of MOW.

Debating whether to paint the grab irons yellow or leave black. Decisions, decisions...

Primed the other sides. She'll be ready for paint later tonight for the base anyways. Still have upper body priming to do.

Manny, Please get your paint booth and ventilation system operational. There are too many stories about model railroaders and brain damage/cancers that can be induced by the VOCs from painting.

    Keith,

Thank you for watching out for me. I fully understand what you are saying. I'll be working on it shortly and will get it going. I can't use any oil based paints because of my respiratory issues. I only use Polly S acrylics or other acrylics because of that. But you are correct. I need to get my booth set up.

    Thanks again.

The Steam Power Black has been started on the base and underside/inside of the cab. It will dry for overnight before the reverse sides are done in the morning. One the paint is dry to the base, I will complete it. This is where the step by step in paint job gets a little weary, but the results in the end will all be worth it.

Looking good as always. One thing about taking photos of what you are doing, one can spot those little areas one missed with the paint. ;-)

The Frisco's bridge crane BC209 was a similar Brownhoist. I photographed the prototype in Memphis in 1968 (see Mike Condren's Memphis Railroads website) and also built the Tichy model to match. Here's a photo of the crane and its tender in Birmingham's Ninth Avenue Yard on our layout. I love it!

That's a nice model and a nice photo! Manny, what's the build date on yours? I bet the grabs were repainted yellow at a later date. I vote for painting them black for our early era. I could be wrong of course. On a side note, I haven't been using a paint booth either. Even though I only spray water based paints I guess that's still bad to inhale. I wonder if using a box fan and a paper dust mask would suffice?

Yep. I only painted the sides in the photo, so I have to go back and shoot the other sides in the morning. I'll touch up a little also. Thanks for the heads up.

Nice job Ken. Yes, I'm enjoying this too. I hope this makes a great addition to the MOW train. Yours is very, very, clean. Great job with the yellow and silver paint.

Jim, the build is around 1910. No safety colors. Everything is black as black can be. I only intend to add some color on the control lever handles. I am going to add a canvas drape rolled up.

As for the paint booth, Keith is right. I need to set it up and use it properly. No excuses.

In post #29 you were debating on yellow or black grab irons. I figured you would figure it out. :)
