Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 A severe lightning storm claimed my desktop Saturday which has all my pictures on it. I may be able to get the data off the drives if they survived. That's why no updates have occurred. The MOW car bodies for the most part are finished. I am awaiting detail parts from Bitter Creek, Rio Grande Models, and Grandt Line to finish the cars. Decals will be ordered through Rail Graphics. The 11 car train looks great. Add my pile driver to it; soon to be water car, Marion Steam Shovel, and derrick, and it will be a real sweet train. Pictures when I'm back up and running.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 ...I've been working on the railroad; all the live long day! I've been working on the railroad; a t-storm took my desk-top away! Can't you hear me crying: a virus got my laptop too! Don't you hear the cap'n shouting, I'll be back real soon!
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Ordered decals from Rail Graphics for the S.A. & A.P. Most parts are in. Waiting on Grandt Line, Bitter Creek, and Rio Grande Models. Trying to locate my camera software disc so I can load it on the computer and get back to business.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Just finished the final proof of the decals with Rail Graphics. Here is what the Latrine Car will look like with its decals. The car will be painted yellow, with Boxcar Red windows, doors, and roof. The roofs will be Murphy style. Once all the little details are finished, I can start painting. What do y'all think? Manny
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 I think you'll end up with a prize winning MOW set! Nice attention to detail and crisp modeling. I can't wait to see them all finished, weathered and posed in a scene.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Grandt Line parts came in today, so I was able to add a few detail parts to the Latrine Car to start. Items updated included corner straps, polling pockets, NBW's on the buffer blocks, vents on the ends of the car. On the underside, I added the center beam, installed the outriggers, NBW's, added the brake system (car was converted from an old tender body), hence the tender brake gear, and added the air brake line pipe. Next I will add the brake wheel... Soon I will start on the roof, which will be a Murphy style roof. Bitter Creek parts to come for this car include reefer hatches redeployed as access hatches for removing the crap barrels for disposal of the waste. The roof will get vents and a smoke jack for the heater. More to come...
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 I know what a Murphy Bed is and I absolutely know Murphy's Law, but what is a Murphy style roof?
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Funny you should ask that as I am working on the Murphy Roof right now. A Murphy Roof is a metal roof with ribbing. It is usually covered with a coal tar paint or simply sealed with coal tar itself. Here is a picture of the Murphy Roof I am building with slats at 30" centers.
Re: Next project: S.A. & A.P. Pile Driver No. 1 - MOW Thats some outstanding modeling Manny. That older stuff was sure interesting looking equipment wasn't it? Thanks for posting. Tom Holley
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Ah ok. I love this site I learn something new everyday. Good looking models!!! It will look cool to see them oll connected and running someday.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Worked on the Recreation/Immigrant Car tonight. Got the roof completed, with the vents and stack in temporarily. Here is how she sits on trucks loosely. If I indeed do it as an immigrant Car, I will paint it Boxcar Red, with white lettering. This way, it is different from the other cars. Breaks up the "yellow" and makes a statement. If I do it as a Recreation, then it will have the yellow scheme. Still undecided. I like the Murphy Roofs, but they sure are a lot of work. I guess it is all worth it in the end. Whatcha think? Manny
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Looking good. I don't know about you but I really enjoy working with wood more so than plastic. Your growing m.o.w fleet is going to be very nice.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Latrine Car is finished and ready for painting. My Paasche H should be arriving today. Floquil Primer to seal and then Reefer Yellow! Decals printed today and will ship tomorrow from Rail Graphics. Manny
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 I like my airbrush a lot but painting a wood kit with a brush is a good start towards adding some realistic weathering and showing variance in individual boards. Just a thought of course. These are going to be beauties without a doubt.
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Airbrush for simplicity. I have to clean up the roof castings, as they are removable. I have a few more do-dad's to do. I can't wait to get started on the painting.
Re: Next project: S.A. & A.P. Pile Driver No. 1 - MOW You do such Great work Manny, Cant wait to see everything complete!!!
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 Thanks! Finished up the Immigrant Car last night. Starting the Kitchen Car... Paint shop later today on the Latrine and Immigrant Car...
Re: S.A.& A.P. MOW Train w/ Pile Driver No. 1 LOL...Nope. It's an immigrant's momento, which will be hung on the car side.
