I will try to make this as brief as possible and still hopefully convey the message about how to access and use this site. There is a really informative new online magazine entitled Model-Railroad-Hobbyist www.model-railroad-hobbyist.com that one has to join (it's free) that has posted a slideshow entitled Railfanning in the KC Area (1960-1970). It can be accessed by clicking on the MRH Theater link on the top of the homepage. The website itslf has been so busy that they have had to change servers and even now accessing things is somewhat slow. Also, at least one of my friends had to upgrade his Internet Browser before he could access it but once he did he commented on how much it was worth it.
There are beautiful images of various railroads all around Kansas and the Frisco ones are very near to my heart because most of them were taken on the Wichita Subdivision including shots at Beaumont, Severy, and Leon. Also a couple of real surprises so I won't spoil the fun.

Enjoy and post comments of what you saw and thought!

  2. I enjoyed the slideshow.

Being a Michigander at the moment, and having spent some time in the state's upper peninsula, I was pleased to see a comparative rarity, a Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic boxcar in the KC area, trailing a Milwaukee Road loco. It was probably hauling lumber or paper bound for a midwestern destination, since there was precious little grain or manufacturing to be found along the DSS&A's lonely northern route among the iron mines and pine forests of the Lake Superior shore.

Out of curiousity, does anyone have documentation of DSS&A freight cars showing up in Frisco trains? I picked up a few DSS&A cars in HO while living Up Nort', and it would be interesting to have a justification for throwing them into the traffic mix of some future Frisco layout.

    Howdy,

Thanks for the post Bob, the e-zine is full of content. It will be interesting to see how it evolves.

As a follow-up to my original post, there is a photo of Business Car #2 in the archives of this library taken in February 1969 that labels it as being "taken somewhere in Kansas". I believe that without checking the sldeshow that this shot is the same sequence as the ones in the slideshow because there is snow on the ground, etc. It was posted by a guest named Paul. I would like to know if he indeed has more slides or all of the slides shown in the slideshow. Paul if you are still around, please respond.

    Hi Bob,

The photo you reference, along with several others I have posted here, were part of an auction lot that I purchased at the 2001 NMRA National Convention in St. Louis.

Looking at the slideshow, it certainly is possible that the photos Tom Wilson included were from the same photographer(s), as some of them do look very familiar. In addition to the photo showing #2, which is in this thread http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=1245 , Some of the GP7 photos looked similar to some I posted in this thread http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=644
