Thanks, Ethan. We live 225 miles from a true metropolitan area, so there's no real way to enter a competiton. Besides, I've never really had any desire to compete. It's just fun to build, learn from others, enjoy trains and enjoy the entire hobby. Thank you!!!!!!

Other than athletic competitions (bicycle racing, table tennis tournaments; etc), the only thing I ever competed in was obedience competition with my last dog. He was such an incredible dog that I couldn't not do it. He ended up being invited to national championships in the Australian Shepherd Club of America twice as one of the top ten obedience dogs in the nation.

Thanks again for your kind remarks.

David Gaines said it needed a drinking fountain, and I concur. So it now has a Halsey Taylor drinking fountain.

We'll just stick an outhouse next to the building...

While awaiting Bettendorf trucks for some freight car builds, a little scratch built structure seemed fitting to fill in the gap. Awhile back I built a foundation without a building, thinking that it was a leftover from a building that burned or fell apart or something. The surface of the foundation wasn't up to standards (just didn't look that realistic), so I put a building on top of it. It's part way done but has a long way to go. Don't know if it will be an industry or something railroad related--structure for the MOW facility, etc.

Jim, I'm floored. Thanks for the kind comments.

So what should it be? Does it look like a small industry, or more like a railroad owned facility--maybe a small freight station or a MOW facility?

p.s. Our weather has been horrible for several months. My non-air conditioned shop is the paint booth, and it's way too humid to paint outside (look at what's going on in the Texas Hill Country and San Angelo, and keep in mind that the entire state has had ridiculous humidity for months).

As a result, I just use a spray can for structures and things that don't need a glass smooth finish. My can of primer gray won't work, so I tried a flat light gray interspersed with silver--alternate passes with each can. It worked out pretty well. You can have a can in each hand and just alternate colors. It makes a decent galvanized metal color.

I think it looks like a railroad structure at trackside that may be near a bridge crossing or high maintenance area. The only limit is your imagination and that stucture could fill endless roles. You did good!

Thanks for the input, Jim. And by the way, I looked at your media album. Your early steam layout is spectacular. It's light years beyond anything I've built.

Which of the media pages is the Jim James page? There’s 168 of them, it would help not having to thumb through every one looking for it.

Nice weathering effects! Good weathering brings models to life.

Thanks. Weathering is something that has not come easily for me... partially due to color blindness. My wife had to answer numerous color questions on this model.

The location in the photos in the previous post is probably not where this structure will be. There's not a lot or room left for a MOW style building on the layout, and that's definitely what it looks like, as opposed to an industry.

These photos are an alternate--and probably better--location for a MOW structure. The water tower and sand building could be moved a little.
