Was the Clinton sub in good enough shape to support the weight of 3 axle heavyweight passenger cars? I've seen some photographic evidence of what seems to be heavyweight cars at Clinton around 1950 but it's difficult to see what kind of heavyweight cars they are.
Scroll down to post #20 in this thread: http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?3364-Clinton-sub-passenger-trains&highlight=highline+train An E-8, HW 30' RPO-baggage (201-220 class) and a HW coach (looks like a 1060 or 1070 class coach). Fairly typical consist for the Highline passenger train. Other photos show older truss rod cars also were used (See also post #8). Tom G.
The Frisco pulled an passenger extra to Bolivar, MO with President Truman and Venezuelan President Romulo Gallegos, who rode the presidential private car, Ferdinand Magellan. The armor-plated car weighed about 285,000 lbs. My father claimed that prior to the movement, the Frisco laid heavier steel in places between Springfield and Bolivar. As Tom states, heavy-weight passenger cars were the norm on the Highline.
See post #33 in the referenced thread. As a kid, I was an eye witness to the Truman train. Besides there's a SUPER Arthur Johnson photo of SLSF Meteor engine 4501! Tom G.
