Where might a person find an O scale coon skin number plate for a steam loco? Were they ever available?

Try Precision Scale. They make them in HO brass and plastic.

  3. I'm on the hunt for a O scale number plate for my new Dual Gauge O & On30 layout. I looked at precision scale and they only listed the HO ones which looked to small for my 4-4-0.

Good to see a post from you 'round these parts, Mike. No sources come to mind, offhand. This makes me wonder if it'd be a good candidate for the 3D-printing, "rapid prototyping" of which I"ve heard. I'm not sure I have the right phrase, but it almost sounds like anyone with a need and the right software for drafting an item can have a manufacturer "print" an item. I suspect I'm oversimplifying matters greatly. :)

    Best Regards,

Thanks Chris, If I can get the dimensions of the number plate or a good image file, I'll use the Cricut to cut it out in a couple of layers (or at least try). That is pretty small but I've made hinges in the past, so the number plate should be possible. ~mike c

Mike, here's what I have from a prominent supporter of Frisco.org:
"The dimensions are L=23"; H=11-1/2"; thickness=0-3/4", border width 0-1/2"; border relief=0-1/8". My Four aces plate was cast in a mold taken from 4003, so its as close as one might get to having the real deal." Don't forget that we have this template for the Frisco coonskin.:
