I checked Athearn's website at the link you posted, and the only roadnumber I could find was the 911, which I believe had a nose herald. Wonder if Athearn included it on the model?
On toytrainheaven? They have #911, 926 and 943 listed on there site, but the same drawing of SD45 #911.
Okay, cool. I see the different numbers available at toytrainheaven. 'Bout time somebody came out with a 45' painted for the Frisco. Another question: Do they have the L-shaped engineer's window? That would be awesome!
While we are on the new product subject, most of the on-line pushers are now showing the Walthers 41' Ballast Hopper as being in stock.
This is odd. I was on Athearn.com looking at these and now they have pushed the delivery date back to late April. And another thing is they have pictures of the locomotives of the new run, except for the Frisco model. Though looking at the MLW model it had a roof beacon, so hopefully they where thoughts full enough to add one on the Frisco models, as well as a gyro light on 943.
Ethan: Thanks for the update. This is not really unusual as the manufacturers are at the mercy of the Chinese factories and then the container companies that ship them over here.
Ken and All: All I can say is that I hope not. I think the Intermountain situation was different probably in the fact that they threw a bunch of cards in the air and picked the ones that landed on the ground. Also the emergence competitors like Tangent and ExactRail. I can't recall seing either Athearn or Atlas announce an item and then turn around and cancel it. Also, the Athearn announcement came after the economic downturn and tightening of lending by the banks. What I have seemed to notice is a slowing of new product announcements in my opinion by Atlas and Kadee, but not by Athearn. Their (Athearn's) move about a year ago to start leaving off some of the details like coupler lift bars, etc. to lower the price of their items may have been a stroke of genius on their part.
On page 7 of the March 2010 issue of Model Railroader, the Athearn ad promises a February delivery of thier SD45, which includes the Frisco numbers. Rich
Don't put too much stock in the announcement in Model Railroader. that information at best is 3 months old. That is the way they have to work to get their deadlines. The information that is on the Athearn website is much more accurate. Model Railroader goes with an prints the information they have at their print deadline. Bob Wintle
You're right Bob, the Athearn website says they are due late April 2010. At least we know that eventually they'll get here. Rich
Say again - we do believe the Athearn HO Frisco SD45's will have the "L" window and that SLSF 911 will have the nose coonskin? Even though I'm a "black & yellow-phile" I can see two of these in my future -probably SLSF 911 and 927. Kurt and I had so much fun chasing them up and down I-44/US-66 that I need to have two in the "fleet". My two GP35's (SLSF 717 and 725) are waiting patiently to join them (even though the 717 is sick). Like Rick said with his plan - my two undec Kato SD45's I've had stashed away will then be available. The Kato drive is far superior to Athearn's I'm sure. After the Athearn GP35's arrived, I've started selling off the Kato GP35's I had - sold all four of them (one phase 1a, two phase 1b's, one phase 1c). They are still very popular among the masses - hope there is similar demand for the Kato SD45. Ken
Ken are you going to have an F-9B to run between your SD-45's? I don't know if an Intermountain would be geared the same, but it could always be a "dummy." Tom
