Hi. My name is Randy Hume. I grew up (until 1964) in Rolla, MO about 1/4 mile from the Frisco line. I have a lot of good Frisco memories. We could see the engine lights through the woods in winter and a few times I walked along the tracks to downtown (don't tell my mom). I was news carrier and the paper office where we picked our papers each afternoon was right on the line, not far from Rolla's station. We rode the train a couple of times to visit my aunt and uncle in Monette. Got to visit the Newburg yard with my Cub Scout troop. Of course, engine #1501 was on display at Shumann Park where I played Pee Wee League baseball. I was Transit Director in OKC for about 11 years. My office was located in OKC's historic Union Station. I had the very nicely renovated train master's office (fireplace included).

I've done some HO modeling since the early 90s, so of course much of what I have is Frisco. I have 4 different Frisco engines, all but one is the post-war vintage I remember. I have one red-white from the 70's. Because of a couple work related moves, I put my train models away for almost 10 years until about 6 months ago. We now live in Fayetteville, NC and just started a new set-up with my grandkids. Our 8 year old thinks my red-silver E8/9 engine is really cool.

I'm primarily interested in pictures and stations between St. Louis and OKC.

Randy, I do like your user name. Right now, I'm sweating out the game vs. Lipscomb, hoping the Tigers manage to pull this one out.

If you're interested in model railroading, too, you'll have to look at the photos here of Don Wirth's Newburg Yard in HO-Scale.

    Best Regards,

Hi Randy - welcome to frisco.org! It's a great bunch of folks with a common interest in a very neat railroad. I, too, left Rolla, MO in 1964 (May) when I graduated as a chemical engineer in the very last class from Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. I grew up in St Louis, and always was interested in trains as my dad and grandfather were both Wabash fans. But, from being in Rolla from 1960 - 1964, the Frisco quickly became my prime interest. We also played a lot of catch, etc in the shadow of 1501 up at Schumann Park. In late May, 1964, keeping with long tradition, I and others from the graduating ChE class got thrown into the lake!

Again, welcome. If you have questions, please ask, if you have information to offer, please post. We would welcome both.

    Ken

Thanks. I was born across 10th St from the MSM athletic fields. Our family rented a house that was moved to make room for I think the Lutheran Church (behind the Holsum bakery). Actually at that time the athletic fields were part of the golf course (sand greens). Our family built a house on the edge of the woods in the Ridgeview subdivision. I went to Pershing Elementary near downtown and the old wooden bridge near the courthouse. My dad was in the insurance business and we moved to Columbia when I was 12, so I went to Jr high, HS and Mizzou there. I graduated in 1974 and having gone to school on a Navy ROTC scholarship I went directly to the USN. My parents moved to Springfield in 1975-76. After the Navy I got my first job in public transit. I've had the opportunity to work a little on the Baltimore subway, New Orleans streetcar, Memphis trolley, and Austin's commuter rail project. I was project manager for the first vintage streetcar line on Main St in Memphis. Most of my work though has been with buses.

I still remember the St Pats parades in Rolla. For a few years we got out of school for the parade, but that stopped after a couple of them got a little raunchy. They still came right by Pershing.

    Chris,
Our Tigers did well in the bowl game. They did the SEC proud. I was also glad to see the BB victory. It's been a tough season so far. I went to Jr high & HS in Columbia before going to Mizzou. The Navy took me awayafter graduating & commissioning in 1974. My parents moved to Springfield in 1975 while was stationed in Guam. I've only made it back to Columbia few times since then. Yes, I'm also a Hickman Kewpie.

I'll belooking for those Newburg pictures. My ho set up is quite small compared to those i see by those on this site. I have 2 ovals with a couple of sidings & a trolley loop. This first phase is in my walk-in attic on a 3 ft hollow core door, so it is easy to move. I plan to add another to create an "L" shape. The first phase is a city setting (I'm working on embedding the trolley tracks). The addition will be a more rural setting hopefully with a little elevation.

Everything is running well even though it is tight, except my GP red & white engine keeps running thru a switch and derails. I can't figure out why. I changed from Horny to Atlas switches to see if that would help.

Chris, I'm still getting used to the site. How do I find Don Wirth's Newburg Yard HO photos? I've looked thru the albums and done some searches, but without success.

    Thanks
    Randy

    V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! Are we it?

The things we can remember. I had two sisters also graduate from DHHS (Pat in '68 & Lola in "75) along with a cousin Kevin Hume in '72.

    Thank you for the links!

Thanks again. Those are amazing pictures, but even more amazing job of modeling. Such great tips, too. Now I also have to go look to see what might be on YouTube.
