    Hi everyone.

My name is Ron, and I live in Australia. I'm modelling the GC&SF (AT&SF) in southern Oklahoma, in 1960, in N scale . Ardmore, the main town on my layout, has an interchange with the Frisco, and while researching appropriate Frisco equipment, I stumbled across this web site. I found Mike's notes on Ardmore very interesting, by the way.

Right now I'm trying to work out:
    (i) What N scale cabooses can be used for SLSF in 1960, and how to paint them. I read that the 1100 series were ex-ATSF, but I can't track down any photos. Were they anything like the Atlas steel/cupola caboose?
(ii) Did the Frisco provide any sort of passenger service to Ardmore in 1960, or was it purely freight traffic?

    Regards,
    Ron

    Howdy Ron,

Thanks for posting an introduction. Be sure to use the Search function using Ardmore. Good luck with your quest.

    Best Regards,

    Thanks Mike.

I've been looking through the caboose pics, and (sadly) found out that the SLSF bought the SF cabooses well after 1960. (Rats! I have SF cabooses aplenty, and was hoping to get away with just repainting a couple.)

Nevertheless, this is a great site. And I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time here.

    Regards,
    Ron

You best bet is probably the AMB Caboose (wood kit) or a "good enough" kit from Walters. I saw several on our layout and once weathered, lit, and painted correctly, they don't look too bad. ~mike

  6. Atlas makes two types of N scale cabooses, factory painted for the Frisco. The old style caboose of SF lineage was not purchased by Frisco until late 60's. The Atlas wide vision caboose in solid brown is appropriate for circa 1960. The Micro-Trains 51000 series wooden caboose with straight cupola is a reasonable stand-in for a Frisco wooden caboose, but has never been factory painted, so it would require custom painting. The only N scale caboose made by Walthers is a bay window and too modern for 1960. Kato makes a caboose that is close to the four inherited from the Northeast Oklahoma RR in 1964. It would also reguire custom painting.
