And, to add to the excitement of Greg Stout's upcoming new book, I just received notice today that Greg will make a presentation to the Terminal Railroad Association of St Louis (TRRA) Historical & Technical Society annual meeting, to be held at the Chase-Park Plaza Hotel here in St Louis on Saturday evening, August 4, 2012, at about 8pm. The meeting itself starts at 6pm (reception), 7pm (meeting), with refreshments (usually including a great TRRA cake!). Guests are welcome, cost for registration is $10 per person. This would be a good opportunity to come and meet Greg and hear his presentation (with slides), and see more of the good work this organization does. I would also recommend you consider membership - it's a fine group (as evidenced by its excellent annual publication). The publication comes along with membership. Bill - As you build up your Frisco car fleet, you will find "Frisco/Katy Freight Equipment in Color" to be quite valuable. Ken
Ken, it was about the only book, that I didn't have. I have Frisco steam, Frisco in color and the QA&P. There may be more, but the Frisco/Katy and the new one will be a good reference.
Be on the lookout for a copy of McCall and Schultz' Frisco Southwest. They've gotten to be pretty expensive, but you'll like it if you can find one. Check out Amazon, Alibris or AbeBooks. EBay too. Every once in a while, there's a decently priced copy available. Recommended! Tom G.
I picked up one for 35 bucks at the OKC show back in 2009- I showed the pics of the doodlebugs in Hugo to the missus (she's a native of the area), and she was impressed.
That's a real reasonable price and I've seen them on eBay and ABEbooks for around that amount from time to time. There are some real rare steam photos in that book. Tom
Charlie - "Frisco in Color, Volume 2". See the link to Morning Sun books at the start of this thread. K
Yeah, I saw that. I just misunderstood. I thought yet another book was being referenced but I had mis-interpreted what was written. Thanks. Charlie
Bill - I'd also highly recommeend Dr Lou Marre's "Frisco Diesel Power", if you are a diesel fan, and/or Joe Collias' "Frisco Power" and the late Lloyd Stagner's "Steam Locomotives of the Frisco Line" if you are a steam fan. Heck, get 'em all! All are frequently available on eBay and the others. I also recommend a copy of "Frisco Southwest" as Tom advised. Stagner also did a short one: "Frisco Steam Finale, 1946-1952". Ken
Ken, I probably will get them all. Gonna need to slow down a little, I am having trouble keeping track of what's coming. My wife's dad worked for FTC, a long time. Most of our folks were with the railroad. My grandfather and his two brothers. My wife's father and grandfather (street car). William Jackson
