Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Yes, I have tons of details to add including cross-bucks and other things visible in the only two photos I have of that area at that time. I'm modeling the area very accurately including the scratchbuilt buildings. This entire scene replicates actual photos. A labor of love so to speak.
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch ( photo ) Doncha like the little well pump out there in the yard? Tom
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) I hope I'm not beating this thread to death folks but I've been getting real busy on my layout and thought it would be interesting to see how things develop. This is a shot of tonight's progress. I've finished all the ground cover for Greenbrier and installed a switch stand. Of course I still need to add many more things like trees and such but it's a milestone for me. Thanks for the feedback. You guys are helpful. Unfortunately this was image is lost.
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Tonight's progress. I'm moving the basic scenery further and further down the line toward Zalma, deep in the hollers of Bollinger County. These are two views of the cut located between Greenbrier and the Castor River bridge which will be right around the bend after exiting the cut. Why, I can almost hear the lazy murmurs of the river now. The first pic is looking west toward Zalma and the second of course is looking back eastward. Not much sunlight reaches the middle so moss covers a lot of the roadbed. This scene is made of stacked foam, sculptamold, latex paint, ground foam and real rock and soil. Many trees will be added so this view will soon be blocked. By the way, the real cut is straight but this is the only place I could put it. Shhhh. Don't tell.
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) That is one of the nicest railroad cuts I've seen in a long time! Great job Jim! Keep up the great work!
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) The fallen rocks and trees really make it stand out! Great work!
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Jim, Consider adding some standing water in the cut. Also, that area is prime for past derailments. Consider throwing some ties, spikes, knuckles, and even possibly an axle or wheel in there. Add some trash. Not much, but right-of-way's weren't exactly "clean". Hope you know what I mean. These are only suggestions, and not meant to ridicule your work in any way. I'm just throwing out some ideas. You are one heck of a modeler! Proud to know you!
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Jim, Here's a prime area for water since you haven't really added grass and the area along side the track is deeper than the others. Just an idea. That's all...
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Thanks, guys. I still have a lot to do and these suggestions will help.
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Last photo for awhile but I wanted to show how adding some homemade trees is really starting to make this scene one of my favorites and it's starting to capture the look of the real place. But I have to pause here because this is where the scenery will transition into fall colors. I'm going to my favorite hobby shop Saturday for supplies. Can't hardly wait. They have a mega layout filling the entire basement! Check out my trees in this pic and remember that this scene is far from complete. Making the transition of colors should be fun.
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Genius (plural geniuses) is something or someone embodying exceptional intellectual ability, creativity, or originality.
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Just a fly-by video of the Greenbeier side of my 4x8. Still lots of detail and scenery stuff to add but here's how it stands as of now. I really like the telegraph/telephone lines. Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving everyone. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj182/jimjames63/e75d4c16.mp4
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch ( photo ) I have been enjoying the thread; thanks. Attached is a portion of an 1925 ETT. Speed limit for psgr trains, 25; speed limit for frt, 15. The line had a Cooper rating of E-27.5, which restricted locomotives to just a handful of locomotives...the 4-4-0's, the 2-6-0's, and the small "400" 4-6-0's
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Karl, you're awesome! I had seen this before but couldn't find it again. All I have for the loco roster happens to be a 4-4-0, 2-6-0 and a 4-6-0 which is probably too big. I have the high driver Bachmann and want to trade for the low driver version. It would look more at home on my layout. Someday I'll model the connection at Brownwood and sport some heavier steamers there. Thanks again, Karl.
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Very nice Jim. I like it! I've taken the liberty of putting it up on YouTube again, so that if anyone has an issue they can see it. You can view it here: Late Summer on the Zalma Branch If possible, do you have the ability to get a wider shot? The narrow viewfinder makes the detail hard to see. Your work is so good, I (hopefully others) don't want to miss a thing! Manny
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch ( photo ) OH! OH! OH! We need a video with a train run-by! PUH-WEEZE?????
Re: New Direction for Zalma Branch (photo) Sorry bout the video quality. iPhone's have limits. Karl, I wish I could understand tables better.
