Athearn has announced a new edition of it's "Santa Fe" style caboose available in a Frisco paint scheme due to arrive in October, 2007. It appears they will be painted in a more correct caboose red rather than the boxcar red of the last edition. Numbers will be 1145 and 1180.

Hooray! I could use one to roll on the rear end of the Miami Switcher, esp. since I'm not up to the task of modeling a 1400-class caboose.

I'll be looking out for this one too! I actually just bashed, painted, and decaled one myself. I used Ace Hardware brand red spray paint along with dullcote--it's a near-perfect match for the Frisco's red on the SF cabooses.

The red on Athearn's art work for the new release is pretty bright. I hope the actual model is toned down a bit - like the prototypes were.

  5. Just bought one for my layout. It is the 1145 it seems a bit bright and too light of a red I was wondering if this is the correct red or not overall it is a great car for $11.99. It is sitting on a siding near my HO scale Van Buren Frisco station.

    Great caboose:)
