Those links are to examples of what I was talking about. I am at work right now but tonight I will try to work something up here for you.

You have my attention on this thread, Charlie; thanks for the effort you have made so far. As with anything, fluency requires practice, but more importantly, practice of the right steps. You have made some of the right steps clear for attachment managing.

I could do better on a tutorial with screenshots and different examples. I think I can get people straightened out on this if I can just find the time to do it. It may take a few days as I will be gone most of the day tomorrow.

My statement is made on the observation that you can NOT embed a photo into the post. It appears that a photo MUST be attached and is only a link you must click/open/download. As far as I recall, this is the ONLY forum that I frequent where you can't embed a photo either directly via the bulletin software or linking to an outside photo library source (such as Photobucket/etc.)

    Am I mistaken?

Hi, Here is an embedded photo, i.e., it is possible. Check the Inline button on the attachment manager: Tuetophile.jpg

That is so cool. I had a 1965 VW bus. Wish I still had it.

    Hi Mike:

Not on my browser it isn't. It still appears as a link you must click and once clicked it opens a new page that displays the photo. That is not an embedded photo. An embedded photo appears in its entirety IN THE POST. Thus, explanitory material, captioning, etc, can preceed or follow the picture(s) as the text moves among the photos.

Let me make sure that all of you that are administrating this site understand that I am NOT complaining... merely pointing out a difference betweent his forum software and others that I am familiar with in response to a comment.

Bottom line: I'm thrilled Frisco.org exists and it is INFINITELY better than what we've had in the past. The software characteristics are basically a non-issue to me in comparison to the excellent sources of knowledge, camaraderie, et al... that one can find at Frisco.org.

Thanks for all you guys do behind the scenes... oh... and THANK YOU Charlie Dix for stepping in and helping out! (In reference to the announcement made earlier in a seperate thread.)

This photo is on TrainBoard. Is this what you are talking about because it is easily done?

Charlie: That has to be the most realistic looking photo of a model scene that I have ever seen!
The ground level shot is what makes it so good.
    Thanks for sharing that one.
Jim James' work comes pretty darn close too!

That is absolutely fantastic. Raises the bar for sure.

Andre, what browser are you using? There are definitely embedded photos visible on all of the computers that I have touched with anything from Internet Explorer 6 to 8.

I am using either IE or Firefox.

However, what browser I chose to use doesn't matter. What you guys are illustrating are embedded LINKS... not embedded PHOTOS.

Below you will see two links to pics that illustrate the difference that I'm talking about.

In the pic "Screen1a.jpg", you'll see a thread at a V scale forum I frequent. Notice the pic is displayed in full within the post, with textual content above (and/or below) if desired.

Now click the pic "Screen1b.jpg". THIS is what appears on this forum. There are NO embedded photos... only embedded LINKS. You must CLICK THE PHOTO LINK to view the picture. Only real downside to embedded links to the pictures is it makes for awkward progression should one do an illustrative post. (Such as a layout tour, or "how to", etc.) You have to click links to view pics... keep up with what link is what pic and what link/pic the text is referring to, etc.

Again... NO BIGGIE... but just trying to clarify my statement that there is NO EMBEDDED PHOTO ability with this forum software, only embedded LINKS.

Does this help to illustrate what I'm saying?

So, you don't see this photo:

    Or this one...

    Or even this one?

Based on this Andre, I'm going to go 100% opposite of you on this (with no offense of course). Again, if people are having issues I will give you all the time I can to help.

Charlie, those aren't N scale photos are they? They look very realistic no matter what scale but if they're N scale I'm even more impressed.

Those are HO photos of a friend of mine from TrainBoard. They make great examples for any purpose.

    FOUND IT!

I figured you guys MUST be seeing something different than I was. You are, and I'VE FOUND OUT WHY.

Apparently, when you register here, there are default settings for browsing/viewing. One needs to go their User Page and scroll down to "My Settings" to the topic "My Account" and click "General Settings". Once your "General Settings" menu is open, scroll down to the section titled "Thread Display Options"... and make sure all three boxes are ticked ON:

    * Show Signatures
    * Show Avatars
    * Show Images (including attached images and images in code)

    Save your changes.

NOW when I view this thread... all of the above pictures appear IN THE THREAD AS THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO.

Hopefully, this will help others that may not have discovered this yet, as well as help us with anyone else that needs some guidance to attaining the above.

    BOTTOM LINE:

You were RIGHT Charlie, et al: This forum software WILL provide photo embedding... but we users MUST SELECT THE OPTION.

Ahh... pics in the threads at Frisco.org, too.

    (Sigh.)

    Life is good. :)

    Andre,

I will take a look at the default settings this week and make sure that is set to default so people don't have to do that themselves. As stated in another thread, I will be going over the settings carefully.
