Maybe either our resident expert Keith or an NCE user on the forum can shed further light on this, but evidently NCE is sending out letters to their registered users about an Eprom update that is now available on their PowerCab. The post that I saw says that one of the new features will be a six loco recall. As a sidebar I realize that this subject is not directly Frisco related but potentially good information for users of specific DCC systems who may find it helpful, especially for those who have at least six Frisco locomotives and rely on this forum as a great source of information.
The only current thing official on their web site refers to a Generation 3 Radio Upgrade. No mention of what the updgrade does and the link that supposedly provides more information is broken. The upgrade costs $25 per cab plus $5 shipping.
That upgrade notice is dated April 09 so I don't think that's the one. In the past NCE has not very good at keeping their website updated.
I'm an NCE user, but havent gotten any letter. But I dont think I have registered my system though. Havent even heard about this but it sounds good. Ethan
In trying to keep everyone apprised of new products I probably should have gathered more information on this thread before posting it. Having said that, being an EasyDCC user, I admit that I am not 100% up to speed on NCE and their systems although I know that Ethan, Tony LaLumia (Friscotony) and others are satisfied users. I saw a post on the DCC for Everyone Yahoo Group which prompted me starting this thread. In order to seek accuracy, I went ahead and joined the NCE Yahoo Group (highly recommend this for every NCE user) and the following is what I learned. NCE has sent a postcard to all registered owners of their PowerCab System which is their lower priced entry level product informing them of an available EPROM upgrade to their system. Besides the previously mentioned 6 loco recall feature the following other features will be added. Plus three USB, AIU or Mini Panels Improved accessory control Improved USB computer commands The $25 charge includes the chip, install instructions, and manual addendum. Also, their add on page 17 in MR (Jan '13) mentioned that they are reflecting the 6 loco recall.
