Paul Dolkos' excellent article in the recent issue of Classic Trains has inspired me to attempt to model a Clinton Sub mixed. I have an Atlas VO1000 in Frisco colors, and I can easily get 1960s-era freight cars. The one thing that puzzles me is where do I find decent models of wood cabooses that could stand in for what Frisco used on this train?

    TIA

I like the look of Micro Trains 34' wood caboose. But you will have to paint and decal your own since they have not made one in Frisco paint.

Dale- I looked at that caboose up close and personal, and it looks like it should work. Painting & decaling is no problem.

    Thanx much!:D

Scored one at the Great Train Expo in Tulsa last weekend. It's an unletterred model, painted in boxcar red. Looks like it just needs decals, and it's good to go.

Now for some early 1960s-era rolling stock.......lol......

Bob, there's the beauty of modelling a less-travelled subdivision. You'll probably have much less rolling stock to acquire in order to plausibly recreate the era's operations.

I'll look forward to seeing thoughts and pictures-under-construction as your layout plan gels.

    Best Regards,

Chris, I'm not really modeling the Clinton Sub, just the train itself. I figured I can shoot some decent pics on my HCD layout.

That Clinton Sub article was quite interesting, and would make a great small layout, even in N scale on a hollow-core door.

What series caboose would the Micro Train 34' caboose be?

    Thanks

    Mike,

The MicroTrains 34ft straight cupola model is 051-00-000 and 34ft slanted cupola is 050-00-000. Both have Bettendorf trucks.

The next Manufactured N Scale Releases post will show the above data.
I do not know about the road number ranges.

    Thanks Joe;

What I really wanted to know is what was Frisco's caboose numbers for these models?
I can't seem to find a prototype photo of one.
I guess I should have worded my question better.

    Mike,

There are two excellent photos of 1112 & 1129 on www.condrenrails.com.

Also on the Frisco Library > Real Frisco > Caboose > Diagrams, 001-999 and 1100-1199 there are some photos and drawings. Most of the 001-999 and diagram posts are in the 001 to 198 range. In the 1100-1199 look in the Various 1100 series thread. Hope this narrows it down some.

    Thanks Joe.

I have two of these cabooses, and now I need to buy some decals.

    Thanks again.

    Mike,

See if microscale.com stock #60-85 will be OK for your needs. It shows a later time era but may be close enough.
