Murder on the Belton Mixed I wrote this article for the monthly newsletter of the Smokey Hill Railway & Museum, The Flyer, December 1993 issue. The newsletter editor "punched" up the article a bit, but the facts are accurate. The museum operates a small portion of the Frisco Highline. A piece of the old Leaky Roof mainline is still extant, and serves as a storage track. I found a folder that contained the facts of this event in a box of Frisco paper that I bought at an auction. The folder contained photos, the autopsy, reports from the Frisco special agent who worked the case, and reports from the KCPD. The boys involved attended the same high school as I did, although some 10 years earlier. I graduated from SWHS in 1972. Indeed the family of one of the boys lived but a few blocks from me. We think of such events more in the context of modern life, and not something that would happen in the 50's.
