I hired out for the Santa Fe in May of 1972.That fall I went to Denver and went to work for the D&RGW as a fireman. In '74 I returned to Oklahoma to work as a fireman for the Rock Island. Then I finally managed to hire out on the Frisco as a fireman in May of '76, which is where I wanted to work to begin with.I was promoted in "77 and spent most of my time working the Oklahoma Sub until the winter of '86 and '87 when I went to the Chickasha Sub. Worked out west for about 25 years including lots of west Oklahoma wheat harvest.I did work out of Seattle Wash. the winter of '94' and '95 which I really enjoyed. After 41 years of running an engine I still enjoy the craft, but am looking forward to retirement !
Welcome, Motorman. Your resume sounds like someone I met in KC at one of the engineer recertification classes in the mid 90s. I am sorry, but I don't remember your first name. I am Terry Jankowski engineer from Tulsa (who is enjoying my retirement). You will find a lot of information here, and I am sure you will be able to add to the wealth of information on the Frisco. Terry
Thanks Terry, I was in KC for re-certification several times in the 90's.My first name is David. I will try to dig out some of my class photos and see what I can find. Thanks,David Townsend.
Motorman Townsend is not telling the whole story. MT is the best there is at what he does, when the carrier calls you and asks for an interpretation of a rule(s), then you know there is more than just an engineer at work here. I've known MT for 27 years now, an absolute pleasure.
