After getting the green light from the local BLM (read: wife), I've set about building an N scale layout on a hollow-core door, a la the Carolina Central in Model Railroader. While not modeling a specific part of the Ardmore & Arkinda Subdivision, I'm loosely basing my layout on the area between Ashdown and Hope, including an MP interchange. The ArklaTex Sub is built with Atlas code 55 and ME code 40 flex, with Atlas code 55 turnouts. The turnouts are manually operated with Caboose INdustries ground throws. Motive power is all four-axle, and so far consists of two Atlas GP38s, two U25Bs, two GP7s, one B30-7 and a Baldwin VO1000 (for the paper mill switcher). Got two of the new GP38-2s on pre-order as well. Due to space, I'm only modeling two basic industries found in these parts- a paper mill and a poultry feed mill. Click here for a trackplan.
