I'm doing a little research on the Missouri Public Service (MPS) power plant that was located at the NW corner of the MKT /SLSF interlocking in North Clinton. Does anyone know what type of coal unloading device was used here or have any photos of the plant? Thanks.
Here are few photos I took back in the 1980's. The plant was not operational at the time I took photos. Also posted a couple of signs you may use. Photo #1 is looking at the west side of the plant. Photo #2 is looking at the NW corner. Photo #3 is looking at the SE corner. Tracks would have been to the right of photo #3 running parallel to the direction the photo was taken. Clinton Yard was directly behind me about two blocks away. A couple of weeks ago. Don Kaiser posted some photos that showed the plant when it was in operation. Dale Rush
Thanks Dale! These are great! I might have to look at redoing my entire plant so far. What I have looks a little big for now.
Your power plant may be too large, but makes a nice stand in until you can develop, or find, a smaller plant. Many model railroad builders use the same technique. Buy a kit to use as a stand in until a scratchbuilt model of the prototype can take the place of the kit. On many model railroads the "temporary kit" becomes permanent. The main thing is your power plant has roughly the same look as the original. With the addition of correct signage most viewers will be fooled. The mind often sees what it thinks it sees or what we remember seeing which is not always the way things really were. When it comes to a utilitarian structure such as a power plant not many people have seen it or paid enough attention to it to remember what really looked like. For instance if you were modeling Kansas City Union Station you would have to pay much closer attention to the details to make a believable structure. Dale Rush
I've got just the car for your power plant! I picked this up years ago at a train show in Springfield, Missouri. The main reason I bought it was I used to live in Jefferson City in 1967-1968 and remembered the local weather person (Lee Gordon) on KRCG 13 being brought to you by "Missouri Power and Light Company" with the skinny light bulb man as the logo for the company. Anyone remember the light bulb guy's name? Pretty cool to see the power station in V-rail. Now you need that Geep pulling a load of Missouri Power and Light hopper cars! George
