    James J. Johnston of Fayetteville will be the featured speaker at the Thursday, July 21,2016 meeting of the Arkansas-Boston Mountains Chapter, National Railway Historical Society. Mr. Johnston, a recognized historian and genealogist, will speak on the 1922-23 labor strife on The Missouri & North Arkansas Railroad in Harrison, AR. The strife caused a riot and the hanging death of one striker.

    The meeting, open to all, begins at 7:00 PM at the Reilly P. McCarren Transportation Museum located next to the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad depot on East Emma Avenue in downtown Springdale.

    National Train Day takes place from 19 AM to 4 PM Saturday, May 13, 2016 at the Frisco depot in Fort Smith, AR. It is a free event and will include displays of artifacts, railroad history programs centered on Fort Smith , AR . I will be doing a program on the tortured history of the building's construction that finally opened in December 1903.The A & M likely will operate not for free trains from the depot to the south bank of the Arkansas River.Please come and enjoy the event.
