Does anyone have any pics of mile post markers used on the Frisco in the 50s -60s? I've attached one pic I took recently walking the Highline trail. Can anyone take a guess when this marker was originally placed? http://i.imgur.com/1My5E.jpg
That is a Barely Nuth'n mile post. I have a mile post maker from the Clinton Sub; will take a photo and post later. On Monday, I will post the Frisco Standard Plan sheet for Mile Boards and Intermediate Markers
How about mile marker posts in the Golden Age 1890-1930? No meaning to hijack, just tag along. This is a great thread!

Attached is the 1973 Standard Plan. I will try and get a picture posted of the Highline mile marker posted this evening.
Karl, Not to be a pest but just wondering if you found those pics/docs for the Highline mile markers.
I've been working long hours of late. The company for which I work purchased Chesapeake Energy's Fayetteville Shale Gas Play, and we've been assimilating that property into our operations. I am taking a long weekend in Springfield, so I am away from my stuff at the moment.
Highline Mile Post D-173 Here's a pic of MP D-173. It measures 10" x 25", and it is made from 1/16" steel. We made it back from Springfield on Monday. I-44 was closed from Mile 11 to the State Line because of debris and wrecked vehicles. Springfield had heavy rain, some hail, and high winds, but nothing compared to what the folks in Joplin suffered. We took US 60 to Fairlawn where we connect with I-44. I had my scanner with me, and I could hear the Haywire dispatcher talking a couple of trains through Joplin on Monday morning. Restricted speed through town, which grade crossings were being protected by flagmen on the ground, etc. Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas were also experiencing a second storm on Monday morning, and the BNSF and UP dispatchers were issuing flash flood warnings and high wind advisories.
Re: Highline Mile Post D-173 Karl, First: neat picture. They look a lot bigger with a square as a reference. Glad to hear you made it out safely. Our local NBC affiliate was broadcasting live from Joplin last night, and as they were signing off for their 5:00pm newscast, you could hear a freight singing very closely nearby, whistling for what I presumed was a grade crossing. I was a bit surprised that rail traffic would be able to move, all things considered. Best Regards,
Re: Highline Mile Post D-173 Nice. Thanks again Karl. So if I understand correctly it looks like the markers were placed on the nearest telegraph pole. They were not totally accurate. Is that correct?
Re: Highline Mile Post D-173 That is correct. The placement was accurate to one-half of a pole length.
