Michael Underwood sez Hello!

  1. I was raised in Clinton, Mo. however I lived just a little over 1 mile south of Deepwater, Mo. on old hwy. 13 in '63-'64. The Frisco high line ran to the back of the property & whenever I caught the sound of a locomotive horn to the south, I would fun through a 15 acre field to arrive at an old dirt road crossing to see that consist! My first intro to the Frisco. I was fortunate to have lived in an apartment that was atop a large building (part of Mayfield feed & seed) just west of the Frisco depot on Green St. The Frisco depot, yard tracks, all was my playground as a young lad. A short-cut to many areas of Clinton also. My great uncle John Calloway was the REA delivery driver at the depot for over 30 years. I'm no expert for sure but, I had a ground eye view of that area for a lot of years. I spent 27 years in Naval Aviation (USMC) as a Structures Mech. (MetalSmith). I also have a great passion for the Katy, M-K-T RR. Yet the Frisco still tugs at me also. I am a modeler as well O gauge of late, but am currently amassing HO for a model of the MKT Sedalia sub w/at least the MKT/Frisco interlock on it. Still in planning stage currently. I currently live in Windsor, Mo. 19 mi. NE of Clinton. That makes 3 railroads as the Rock Island came through Windsor as well. I have a lot to learn (Clinton too)and hope to communicate with many. Thank you for the privilege of being accepted to this group. All my friends call me "Dog" all my do so here. Thanks Again!

Glad to see you here Michael. I'm guessing you could be a valuable resource for me as I've been modeling the Highline for a few years now in v scale. I have a thread here with screenshots and videos.

Michael, Welcome Aboard! I have been down in the Clinton area several times on our KC modelers Walk in the Weeds; an activity we plan the day after Thanksgiving each year. Mark Davidson (mark), Karl Brand (Karl) and Bradley A. Scott, all members of this forum have lots of information to share regarding the KCC&S, KCO&S, and Frisco through Clinton. Be sure to use the search function to find the pertinent threads. You will find lots of info on this forum.

  8. I currently live in Windsor, Mo. Clinton is only 20 min. away. I am slowly getting my feet wet. Thanks and would be happy to take that tour sometime. Dog

  9. Marolfs Tire (L/H pic) is still in business today. Clinton City Hall & police are across the street. 300 block of S. Main St. Building next door is on the NW corner of Main & Ohio St. (R/H pic) is near the back of Marolfs Tire. Looking in a SSW direction, the Katy depot is just visible around that back shed. Crossing is Ohio St. (18 hwy.) There never where gates there, or any other crossing in Clinton.

Welcome, Michael and thanks for your service to our country. There is a lot of good information and good people on this site. The Henry County Library, their website and Mike Good at the library are a wealth of local Henry County railroad information.

I still make it back to your area from time to time. My brother works for Everharts in Clinton and I have in aunt and cousin in Windsor. I grew up in Chilhowee with the Rock Island literally in my backyard and lived in Clinton for a couple of years after I got out of school. My Grandma Belew was an Underwood. She was born at Ohio post office, St Clair County between Osceola and Appleton City around 1910.

I model the SLSF Clinton Sub in N scale with Blairstown, US71 at Blue River in KC and Harrisonville nearly complete. Harvey is about ready for scenery with structures complete. Benchwork and tracklaying should commence this spring at Dodson and Centropolis. Progress is slow, but steady.

I have accumulated quite a bit of information about Clinton and if you are interested in anything I will try to help. My interest in Clinton is more on the Frisco side than the Katy, but I like learning about both. And I like Henry and Johnson County history in general. My railroading interest came from my Grandpa Rush who worked for the Frisco for over 40 years in Osceola, Deepwater, Blairstown and Clinton, retiring in 1965.

I own Blair Line, a model railroad manufacturing company. I have plans to laser cut the Clinton depot and North Clinton Tower, but much like the mechanic's car goes unrepaired, my modeling sometimes moves like a herd of turtles.

Sorry to get a off track - Dale, I managed to take some photos and do a bit of measuring on the old north tower, if you are interested.

I am very interested. Been following some of the postings about the south tower, which appears to be identical to the north tower.

I just emailed you some photos from Harvey and Bolivar. Hope you enjoy them. I am signing off and going home to spend the evening with my Valentine before I get in trouble!
