The streamline lightweight red and stainless steel fluted Meteor observation-lounge-diners were SLSF 1550 "Tulsa" and SLSF 1551 "Oklahoma City". The earlier heavyweight lounges from the 1930s that ran on the steam era Meteor and are pictured and discussed on this thread were SLSF 1401 "Oklahoma City" and SLSF 1402 "Tulsa". Lounge SLSF 1401 and SLSF 1402 were not originally numbered. They gave up their names and received numbers when the streamlined diners SLSF 1550 and SLSF 1551 were delivered. The altogether different Texas Special sleeper-observation-lounge cars were SLSF 1350 "Joseph Pulitzer" and Missouri-Kansas-Texas MKT 1400 "Stephen F. Austin". The streamline diners SLSF 1550 and SLSF 1551 were configured differently than the sleeper-observation-lounge SLSF 1350 and MKT 1400. Tom
Indeed, this car has disappeared from the siding in the previous attached photograph. I have tried to make contact with anyone at the MLR but no one is talking. I am trying to find out when this car, and its sister car, were sold to Royal American Shows (RAS). I think RAS bought them from a scrapper sometime after October 1965, but I do not have definite date. Can anyone help with that date? Fred Heatley
Just to add some information to this old thread. The camouflage roster as published by the former Frisco Museum lists SLSF 1401 as being repainted to red and silver in June, 1955 and SLSF 1402 being painted similarly in April, 1956. The camouflage roster is available at the following link. http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....e-roster-1948-1956-by-museum.4870/#post-34791 ) What I find interesting is that the floor plans for these two cars differed slightly. SLSF 1401 had a kitchen where SLSF 1402 had a ladies lounge. These were on the end where one vestibule door was enclosed, the two small windows at the end of SLSF 1402 seen in photographs posted earlier in this thread are the kitchen windows. Paul
The lounge SLSF 1402 "Tulsa" was sold to the Royal American Shows around 1966. It was used through the 1977 season. It has been in Florida ever since, to my knowledge. From 2003 to 2020 it was in Pigeon Key, Florida where is was being used as a gift shop. A recent post on a Facebook Group stated it was just moved back to Marathon, FL. It had been stored there in the 1990s.
