Hello Frisco Land! I have been inactive for 4 long years now (minus a brief stent where I built the shelf layout.) This was mostly due to college draining all of my time and energy. That is over now. I finished my last final today, and graduate on Saturday (Bachelor in Accounting and Finance). As the end drew near my interest in railroading reemerged. I have been doing some digging around, and some research as of late. Just found out that Google Earth is a great program to have. I'm itching to get back into modeling, but it will have to wait another month. 2 years ago, come this July, I married my high school sweetheart. She is going to be attending Oklahoma State Veterinarian Medicine School starting this fall, which means we will be making the move to Stillwater. I will now have a whole new region of the Frisco to explore and learn about. Our house wont be ready for us to move in to until early June, so the layout has to stay packed away for the time being. It's so hard to not start digging everything out though. When we do get settled in I should have room for a decent sized layout, so that will be fun getting to expand my fake empire. I have a few track plans drawn up, but I may be asking for some input on this one. I look forward to becoming active in the community again Ethan
Holy cow, I wondered what had happened to you. You've packed a lot into the last four years and have done a great job getting your future lined up. Congratulation on the graduation, marriage and upcoming home ownership. Sounds like you found a lady who is as ambitious as you are. Knock em dead Ethan.
Congratulations Ethan, I went through the same thing about 50 years ago. You will enjoy Frisco railroading without the pressure of school. It sounds like you have happy days ahead. Persist! ~mike c
Congrats all the way around and welcome back. I think we have all been or going through some similar things. Models are always a nice break from reality aren't they?
Ethan, great to hear from you. I am glad things are going to get settled in for you and your wife. You know you will always have the ears and support of Rick McClellan and me. I don't know if you heard about our mutual friend Bob Hoover, but if not check the other Announcements herein.
Way to go Ethan! Sounds like you're a very level headed and purpose driven young man. That's good, and seems to be a rare quality among those of your age. Stillwater, eh? Wow... what a difference between the part of OK I live in (Poteau on the eastern side of the state) and Stillwater "red dirt country". I've loaned out (railroading) to the western part of OK on several occasions and I must say that one loan-out had me running mainline trains over a portion of the Frisco in OK that ended up in forsaken part of OK that looked like parts of New Mexico! (Mesa's/etc.) Are you two considering settling in the western OK region, or do you have a target area in mind once the Mrs. has graduated? (Which will be a while!) Anyway, along with the others let me welcome you back to the Frisco fold! Andre
Thanks for checking in and updating us, Ethan. Congratulations on all your accomplishments. All the best.
Thanks for the kind words everyone. To answer your question Andre, we really don't know where we will settle. Vet school is 4 years, and if she wants to specialize, it would be another 4-5 years of residencies after that. We will settle where ever life takes us.
It's great to see you back on here. I was wondering just the other day when we would hear from you. Best of luck to your wife with her veterinary medicine studies. Robert
Ethan, a hale and hearty welcome back to the fold and many congratulations. Any particular area of veterinary medicine that your bride is going to study? We'll look forward to track plans as you start to sketch things out. Be bold, and know that any suggestions on a track plan are designed to help you get maximum enjoyment out of a fantastic hobby. Best Regards,
Chris, she isn't sure yet. the idea is to get in and start learning and make that decision based off experiences with the program (and any real life experiences too.) Her and her mom are dog breeders, so she may do something related to genetics and breeding, or she is also interested in sports med for dogs.
As a proud Oklahoma State alumnus, please tell your wife I said Welcome to God's Country (a/k/a OSU)! You'll be equidistant to both Tulsa and OKC (about 65 miles), and I recommend the occasional railfan trip to either city as expenses and time allow. In Stillwater itself, remember two places: Eskimo Joe's and Hideaway Pizza. You'll not be too far from Enid (UP, BNSF and Grainbelt), another former location of Frisco action. Missed your posts in this forum, and can't wait to see and from you again. Congratulations on your marriage, and best wishes to the Lawrences.
