What names and numbers did Life-Like offer in the Frisco "Racehorse" scheme? How many different numbers were there?

    Thanks, Tom

There was a second run of the redbirds....My favorite, 2019, Cavalcade and one other whose name/number escape me. The second run had but one steam generator, and I was not impressed with the lettering.

The other name of the second run was 2022 "Middleground". -Rich

E8 "Sea Biscuit" was SLSF 2013. That was not one of the Proto 2000 E8 models. Should have been!

There are considerable differences between the first P2K HO E8 Frisco release - 2016 and 2020, and the second P2K release - 2019 and 2022. In some ways the first release was a better model, in some ways the second release was the better model.

Personally, I like the first release better as a model, though the second release runs better. I run one of each in A-A sets, they work well together. I don't see any differences in the paint scheme on each - both excellent (except they each should have had a blue nose coonskin to be perfectly correct).

I was lucky enough to buy a custom painted and decaled (N scale remember) Kato E-8 with #2013 and the "Sea Buscuit" name.

would the second release happen to be more DCC friendly? I see them pop up on ebay from time to time but never bid.

The second release was DCC friendly, and there's at least one decoder out there "made to order". Check TCS.

I am going to have to high jack this thread because for the third time I cannot post a new thread in the E8 threads. Have any of you traded out the stock couplers on the rear of these P2K E8s with Kadees? I installed the Kadee short shank whisker coupler and could tell it was longer than the stock coupler, thus not allowing the diaphragms to touch as they do with the stock couplers. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I went to Kadee to check out the 33 couplers and found that they have the same 1/4" length from the middle of the hole to the back of the coupler head as the 153 I already tried. I learned that Kadee used to sell a conversion kit (453) specifically made for the P2K E8, and I am wondering if anyone has used this conversion kit. The coupler used with this kit is the 33 that Keith mentioned, so unless the conversion bracket pulls the mounting hole back 1/8", I won't get the close coupling I am after. I have found some 453 kits, but they are pricey as I want to buy six. Before I buy them I want to know that I am not wasting my money by not getting the close coupling like the stock couplers on the E8s allow. Thanks for any info on this kit.
