I rode that train--I have a couple of questions about it--what was the date? I rode it from the short junket from Newburg to Rolla(around 8 miles). Second question--there was a guy on the back of the rear car that was playing taps on a trumpet(or cornet)--any idea who that was?

    Thanks,

    Jim

This is so old, you may not see it. I do not have the last date, but it was before December, 1967, as that was the last run of the Kansas City - Memphis - Birmingham train which was the last Frisco operated passenger train. I believe that the St. Louis to Oklahoma city train went somewhere between 6 months and one year earlier.

By the way, the last scheduled passenger train to run on Frisco rails was the ICRR City of Miami thanks to ICRR trackage rights between Jasper, Alabama and Birmingham, and that train ended on A-day.

The last Frisco passenger train through Memphis was #102, departing Memphis early on the morning of December 9, 1967. Both 101-102 (The Southland) began their last runs from originating terminals on December 8, 1967, and the last #101 thus passed through Memphis on the evening of December 8.

Service on the St. Louis-Oklahoma City line (trains 1-2, The Oklahoman) ended in the Spring or early Summer of 1967.
