I don't know if anyone is intressted or not but here is a couple large scale maintenece of way trucks I have built. The Dodge A-100 is based on a Lindergh kit with scratchbuilt toolboxes and hi-rail set up. The Ford has an AMT cab with scratchbuilt bed, trailer and hi-rail. The backhoe is based on an old AMT kit also with some details added as needed. Not a real popular scale or subject here but a little diffrent for you guys to check out.

Very nicely done. Will they actually run on the rails?

  3. The hi-rails are dimensioned so they fit the rails but they are static display. The next versions will probably be powered. Some realism has to be sacrificed for power. Glad you like them.

I pulled up the photos and only one pops up. The message says the others have been deleted? The 90001-Copy.jpg of the yellow tool truck shows up beautifully. What is the scale? At age 65, worn out eyeballs and born with ten thumbs, I did consider large scale but it would be a tight fit in my livingroom. Caboose hops would be the norm! Still, when compared to the other scales, large scale, despite the problem with creating standards, offers better compeditive pricing than most of the other scales when you consider what you are getting in relation to size, and when you throw a switch you really do "bend the iron!"

With HO plastic fine scale detailed freight cars approaching the $50 level, large scale 1:29 or 1:32 are a bargan in many ways. I can even read the billboard lettering without my glasses! A trio of red and white SD45s from Aristo-Craft and a coal drag with Coonskin herald hoppers and a tuscan red caboose would sure be impressive!

I can relate to these trains, having swapped cabooses, Frisco and KCS, in the Santa Fe East Dallas Yard back in the late 60s and into the 70s. This was when Frisco was alive and well and BN wasn´t a dirty four letter word!
