Well with a recent transfer and move from St Louis to Poplar Bluff, I made a trip over to Thayer to to get a glimpse of the Kansas City- Memphis mainline. I'm thinking this might be a great place to model and design a layout around. My question is what kinds of steam power were common on trains through the ozarks here? I seam to remember a mention of 4200 series mikes being used but not sure what else. Also does anyone have any info on operations through here in the late 40's to early 50's? I found a photo that showed a yard, roundhouse, and switcher but it was from around the 1900. Any help would be appreciated.

    Troy -
I went ahead and moved your post to the "Layouts" section - maybe we can get some of the folks more familiar w/that segment to provide some feedback.

Have you narrowed down layout ideas to particular towns or areas, vis-a-vis "layout design elements?"

Meanwhile I'll see if I can find any more info. You might also want to look around any timetables under the "Operations" section.

Have you met David Silverberg or any of the other folk at the Poplar Bluff RR museum? If your layout space is smaller and more compatible with branch line ops, the Hoxie Subdivision right in your town is a nice modelgenic and operational setting.

    Best Regards,
