   I found this letter from R. L. Coulter in my files. The second page stated: "Metal-sided cabooses were purchased and built account high maintenance cost of wood siding. The 1500 and 1600 series numbers were skipped because the 1776 was built for the Bicentennial and subsequent pool cabooses were simply number in the 1700 series."
