To All: Intermountain has just announced a run of Orange & White F7's in both HO & N scale. There will be 4 road numbers in A units and 2 road numbers in B units. Both sound and non-sound versions will be available. Please reference the below web link for more information. http://www.intermountain-railway.com/reservationflyers/RF1115HOandNF7s1.htm
My God, they still show d/b's on the B-units! What's the matter with them? How many of us have told IRC that Frisco B-units did not have d/b until the F9B's? And why no numbers or lettering on the B-units? Do they ever bother to look at photos of the units? Ken
When they did the n-scale F7B units with the FP7s, they were produced correctly without dynamics. More interesting to me is the choice of road numbers on the A units... Two 2 digit units and two 4 digit units... And they include both 32 and 5032, which I believe are the same locomotive! Paul
I'm pretty sure you are correct, Paul, but I can't locate any renumbering lists right now; I know that Frisco in Color has a renumbering guide, but I don't have it handy. At any rate, I'm pretty certain that all of the 4-digit "5000" series units were renumbered by simply dropping the "50..." Best Regards,
The F7B-units are ex 5118 and 5125. The other F7A (22) was 5022. Frisco's renumbering system was pretty easy to figure out for the F7's! Ken
So does anyone know how long it took for Friso to renumber, and when the renumbering started? We're really only talking about the F,FA, and FB units being renumbered, since all the hood units were delivered with 3 digit numbers and the E units were off the roster before te renumbering started. I can't imagine that took a very long time. Paul
Mostly, but not completely. The F3A units ( even the two rebuilt to F9As) were all renumbered with two digit numbers, and they ended up with numbers above the remaining F7As and FP7s. Paul
The EMD F's and Alco FB renumbering occurred in 1968 per Dr. Marre. The only tricky renumberings were these units: F3A's 5002 became 62, 5005 (F9Am) became 75, 5006 became 66, 5007 (F9Am) became 77, and 5012 became 64. The remaining F3B's renumbered were: 5100 became 160, 5101 became 161, 5104 became 164, 5105 became 165 and 5117 became 167. No FA1's were renumbered, they were all gone. FB1's (Repowered with EMD 567-C's) renumbered were: 5301 became 191, 5303 became 193, 5307 became 197, 5309 became 199, and 5310 became 190. As noted above, the F7A, F7B, FP7A, and F9B renumberings were easy to understand. The A-units dropped the "50", and the B-units dropped the "5". So, for example, F7A 5021 became 21, F7B 5127 became 127, FP7A 5047 became 47, and F9B 5143 became 143. Ken
I know that. The question really is when in 1968 was the renumbering done... And was there a time period when it would be possible to see locomotives with the 5xxx series numbers in service with one that had already been renumbered. Paul
Paul - Of course, there was very likely a short period of time when units of both numbering schemes were out running. They wouldn't have idled all the units involved until they were renumbered, then put them back in service at one moment. Unfortunately, don't know any details. Ken
