Hi. My name is Mike, and I'm glad to be on board. I am a Springfield, MO native- and am a big Frisco and BN fan. No grumbling- I'll explain about BN. I came along in 1979...so I don't have any memories of Frisco per se. BN is what I grew up on. I do, however, recall seeing a lot of SLSF freight cars still roaming the rails when I was a kid. I also remember some SLSF cabooses- albeit with BN stencil jobs. I model BN and SLSF in the early 1980s. My layout is loosely based on SW MO. My little empire has quite a ways to go. I relocated back to SGF last year and am starting from scratch. Looking forward to meeting everyone and chatting!
If we can have Mizzou fans who tolerate their Jayhawk friends on this site, and vice-versa, there's room for BN guy, I reckon. Give us time, though: we'll help you see the light so that you eventually backdate nothing but orange/white or black/gold. Best Regards,
Welcome aboard, Mike. As an ex Springfield boy that grew up in/on the Frisco, any BN shortcomings will be forgiven!! Dan
Absolutely, I know a Jayhawk guy who wants to host an operating session for a Tiger but the Tiger rarely comes out of his cage. If the Tiger would throw out a date or two or three there could be a gathering of Frisco guys in Shawnee.
Rick - Remember, these Tiger guys are not so good when they go out of their cage on the road. Maybe that is the problem. RCJH ! Ken
Aye, this Tiger is hiding in his cage, hanging his head in shame after what is becoming an annual shakedown in Lawrence. Maybe they should have Norm give the pre-game pep talk next year. Or, we should send this guy to the games at Allen Field House: http://www.columbiamissourian.com/stories/2009/02/28/mu-freshman-matt-allen-lands-place-tiger-lore/ Indeed, I need to get out more, Rick. I need an operating session. We'll see once things warm up; however, with Ben starting to golf again and his moving to Boy Scouts...I'm hopeful, however, that a trip to Shawnee can be squz in. I am excited to see that BSA offers a "railroading" merit badge. Karl, Ben says his goal is to reach Eagle Scout rank. He was sold when he learned that 11 of the 12 astronauts to walk on the moon were Eagle Scouts. Best Regards,
The Railroading Merit Badge counselor with whom I worked told me that he had lots of boys who tried bluff their way through the requirements. Any scout who has built his own layout, and who has had a little exposure to the prototype should not have any difficulty completing the merit badge. I hope that Ben is able to stick with the program and earn his Eagle. Girls and and cars tend to get in the way during the high school years.
