While not a cast more of a 3D printing thing but I had not noticed them before. Among many other HO things including our own RCH's 3D stuff. I found these and wanted to let you know. http://www.shapeways.com/product/XE...ose-gyralite-ho-1-87?li=nav&optionId=57386919
Boy you got that right John, cant wait to hear they are good. looks like you get a bunch for the price too.
When you get the parts, be sure to clean them thoroughly with Simple Green before you install them or paint them. The waxy residue they will be covered with resists paint and glue.
OK, what is Simple Green? Have an order from Shapeways on the way. Be sure I will do a review of them and let you know what I think. I have done a few nose gyralight modifications using the Utah Pacific Pyle gyralight casting and a hand-made box to mount it in up on the short hood nose. I have been only moderately pleased with my results. I didn't do well on the box. I'm hoping these things solve that shortfall. I am somewhat concerned about the details of the gyralight, which don't look as fine as the Utah Pacific casting. The box looks great. I decided to give it a shot! ..... we'll see what we get. K
Simple Green is a degreaser/cleaner found just about anywhere where cleaning products are sold. i.e. Target, Lowes Home Depot. WalMart, Menards, etc.
Ken, the Frosted Extreme Detail plastic that is being used should make these look better than most metal castings.
Keith - I certainly agree, but the pics I have seen have me a bit worried. The face of the gyralight appears to have detail that is too severe compared to the real thing. I ordered them anyway. We'll see what we get. K
I received my Shapeways HO EMD short hood nose gyralight parts today. They have them attached ten to a sprue, five on each side. They look pretty darn good to me. Not too delicate, but you will still need to shape the hole in the short hood nose carefully. That has generally been my trouble spot, but these mountings should be easier to fit than the other metal castings or plastic that are available. I still think the face of the gyralight is a bit too harsh, but this is a small matter as the face is very small. I've been looking at it through a magnifying glass. Ken
